Police Report: Christ King Church Victimized Again, This Time for Downspouts

Residents hears noises, sees men making off with valuable copper.

Christ King Church, which had been by someone who broke in and bashed open a heavy safe, was again the target of crime last week when three men were seen stealing its copper downspouts.

At 1:09 a.m. Thursday, a resident of the 2600 block of Swan Boulevard reported hearing a loud banging noise and looked out to see three men trying to steal the downspouts off of the church at 2604 Swan Blvd.

Several police cars were sent to the area but the suspects were not found. Police checked the church and found two downspouts on the west side of the rectory severely damaged but still attached to the building, then noticed that at least three other downspouts, each about 20 to 25 feet long, were gone.

Police later got a call from the business manager of the church reporting a fourth spout missing. Loss and damage were estimated at $2,100.

Sunday

A resident of the 1600 block of North 116th Street reported that sometime between July 10 and 15 while on vacation, someone had stolen his son’s bike from the yard and left a different bike in its place.

At 4:45 p.m., a 51-year-old Milwaukee man who is well-known to Wauwatosa police for numerous similar incidents was arrested for disorderly conduct after he created a disturbance at Yo Mama frozen yogurt shop, 1349 Wauwatosa Ave. The man was intoxicated and entered the restaurant shirtless and began yelling profanities when asked to leave.

Saturday

At 10:28 p.m., a 41-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested for theft after he was caught stealing scrap metal from Alro Steel, 3000 N. 114th St.

At 9:19 p.m., a 30-year-old Sussex woman was arrested for theft and trespass at at Mayfair Mall after she was recognized as a perpetrator of prior thefts and then seen concealing $195 worth of clothing and trying to leave the store. The woman had been given a lifetime ban from the store in 2009.

At 2:30 p.m., a 14-year-old Milwaukee girl was arrested for theft after she tried to steal two items from the baby clothes section at at Mayfair Mall.

Friday

At 4:28 p.m., a 27-year-old Milwaukee woman was arrested for theft at Metcalfe’s , 6700 W. State St., after she concealed and tried to leave the store with two bottles of liquor.
