Police Report: Resident Deserves a Rest After Cracking Down on Crimes

A resident of Hillside Lane had a busy night Monday and into the wee hours of Tuesday as he thwarted a home invasion and then alertly reported a suspicious character who was soon arrested for thefts from cars in the neighborhood.

At 10:56 p.m. Monday, the man reported an attempted burglary in the lower level of the duplex he lives in the 6600 block of Hillside. He heard banging and glass breaking from the unoccupied lower flat and called police, who found a screen cut and the window pushed in, shattering it. Officers believe the burglar left without entering.

At 1:46 a.m., the same man, who said he had just stepped outside because he could not get to sleep, saw a suspicious character who he believed had just come through his back yard.

He called police, and a short time later a 14-year-old Wauwatosa boy was arrested for thefts from autos and as a fugitive. He was caught in the 6300 block of Cedar Street and found to have a bag of change and lighters taken from parked cars and an iPod that belonged to a Hillside Lane resident.

He was also found to be on probation through the .

Sunday

At 3:40 p.m., a Milwaukee woman who works as a manager at the sub shop at 853 N. Mayfair Rd. reported that some time within the previous hour someone had stolen $200 in cash from her wallet, which was in an unlocked employees-only office at the rear of the store.

A employee who lives in the 11000 block of West Potter Road reported that some time overnight someone entered a city-owned vehicle and his fiancee’s car, both parked in his driveway, and stole a city-owned digital camera and her iPod. He said both vehicles were usually locked, but police found no signs of forced entry.

Saturday

Residents of the 2500 block of North 62nd Street reported that some time between 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.  someone broke in to their home and stole numerous items. The window in the home’s side entrance door had been broken. Among the property missing was a 40-in television, game systems, music systems, a camera, a laptop computer, two piggy banks full of coins and a baby monitor.

At 8:38 p.m., a 23-year-old Milwaukee woman was arrested for trespassing after she was spotted entering , 2421 N. Mayfair Rd., where she has been banned because of retail theft. She began shouting profanities when security told her to leave, threatened to start a fight and continued to pound on the glass and hurl profanities after she was escorted out. By the time police arrived, she had run away from the store toward Mayfair Mall. She was located in the store there and placed under arrest. She had also been banned from Mayfair, where she had been arrested three times before for trespassing.

At 4:08 p.m., a 21-year-old Milwaukee woman was arrested for theft at in Mayfair Mall after she was seen concealing and trying to leave the store with $245.99 worth of clothing.

A resident of the 1400 block of Lombard Court reported that some time overnight someone had entered his unlocked garage and stolen his lawnmower.

A resident of the 1400 block of Martha Washington Drive reported that overnight someone had entered his unlocked garage and stolen more than $1,500 worth of property, including bicycles, tools and a snow blower.

Glendale police recovered a car belonging to a Wauwatosa man who lives in the 2600 block of North 69th Street after it was stolen from behind his apartment building and arrested one of four men found in it on unspecified charges. Glendale officers stopped the car during an investigation of strong-arm robberies in the area and found a rifle in the car that did not belong to the owner of the vehicle. The other three men were released before Glendale police processed the car and realized it was stolen.

Friday

At 7:26 p.m., a Wauwatosa woman reported that a youth on a bicycle had approached her while she was walking in t 7300 block of West Clarke Street and made lewd comments to her and then slapped her on the buttocks.

At 9:34 a.m., a 15-year-old Wauwatosa boy was arrested for fourth-degree sexual assault after he attempted to have sex with a young woman with whom he shares a foster home in the 7400 block of Milwaukee Avenue. She resisted his advances, in which he touched her inappropriately and exposed himself. He resisted officers strenuously and had to be taken to the floor to be handcuffed.

A resident of the 500 block of North 107th Street reported that some time overnight someone entered his unlocked car and stole a laptop computer.

Thursday

Two Milwaukee teens, 19-year-old and 15-year-old stepsisters, were arrested for theft after they were caught trying to leave with concealed merchandise. The two said they intended to steal baby formula for a relative’s infant, but the 15-year-old also took a bottle of Bombay gin.

At 2:02 a.m., a 22-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested for theft during a traffic stop in the 2100 block of Wauwatosa Ave after it was discovered he had stolen sewer pipes and covers from the 6900 block of Hillcrest Drive. The officer found the driver’s actions suspicious and learned his license was suspended. He pulled the man over and found manhole covers, pipe clamps, pipe caps and a cast iron water line in the back of his van, all worth $1,450 and taken from a city construction site on Hillcrest.

Tuesday

A resident of the 1500 block of North 69th Street reported that three bicycles had been stolen from her open garage.

At 1:36 p.m., a 22-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested for felony bail jumping after officers were called to investigate a man carrying a gun inside the restaurant at 6631 W. North Ave. The man was found to be wearing military-style clothing and was carrying a gun, but when an officer examined it closely he discovered it was a BB gun built as an exact replica of a Walther semiautomatic pistol. The man also had pepper spray and chemical mace canisters, as well as a gold security badge, two sets of handcuffs and a walkie-talkie. He claimed he worked as an unlicensed and unofficial security guard for gas stations and other places, and got more respect by looking the part and carrying weapons. He was arrested for violating conditions of his parole from Dane County on a felony conviction, specifically the condition that he not possess dangerous weapons.

At 2:30 a.m., a West Allis woman reported that her car had been stolen from a parking lot in the 600 block of North Mayfair Road.

Monday

At 1 p.m., a Brookfield woman reported that someone had entered her locker at the , 2420 N. 124th St., and stolen about $250 cash from her wallet.
