Police Report: Thieves Thwarted in Attempted Burglary, Car Theft

Car license plates and bicycles also are theft targets.

A Wauwatosa woman scared off a would-be burglar when she got up after hearing an unlocked rear screen door slide open and then heard someone walking in her house in the 2400 block of North 69th Street shortly before 3 a.m. Thursday, Wauwatosa police said.

The woman got up to inspect the noise and found a man in a dark hooded sweatshirt in her kitchen. She told police the man fled after he saw her watching him from her bedroom door.

  • A Tosa woman's rear windshield was shattered by a BB or pellet gun shot in the 6000 block of West Garfield Avenue shortly before midnight Thursday. The 41-year-old woman was unhurt; damage to the vehicle was estimated at $300.
  • Thieves stole rear license plates from two Tosa cars, one parked in a driveway in the 7200 block of West North Avenue and the other parked in an apartment complex lot in the 7200 block of West Center Street.
  • A Tosa man scared off a suspect attempting to steal his son's car while it was parked in front of their home in the 2400 block of North 67th Street about 12:30 a.m. Tuesday. The man went out to move his son's car from the street when he saw a suspect jump from his son's car and get into a waiting car. A car window was smashed and the key cylinder and ignition guard had been pulled form the steering column.
  • Two youth bicycles, with a combined value of $110, were stolen from an unlocked garage in the 4400 block of North 100th Street sometime late Wednesday or early Thursday.
