Police Report: Update on Crime in Wauwatosa

Spate of thefts at East High should make students wary of leaving items unattended.

A warning to Wauwatosa East High School students, especially girls attending physical education classes. There have been a number of recent incidents of theft from lockers and backpacks, mostly from the girls' locker room.

At 3:07 p.m. Friday, a Wauwatosa girl reported that her digital camera worth $160 had been stolen from the girls’ locker room at East. At 11:30 a.m., another East student had reported her cell phone worth $300 had been stolen from the locker room.

There were several similar reports filed from East High earlier last week.

At 4:58 p.m., a 28-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested at Mayfair Mall for disorderly conduct after mall security called police to assist with a “highly aggravated subject” who was screaming at random mall patrons and spitting on the floor. The Wauwatosa officer responding was stopped at the entrance by a man who told him “There’s a big fight going on in there.” Eventually, it took six mall officers and three Tosa police officers to remove the man from the mall. According to the police report, the man appeared to be highly intoxicated and possibly under the influence of some narcotic. The man continued to resist even after he was handcuffed, and because of the aggravated circumstances, his bail was set at $555. Mayfair Mall issued a notice that the man was banned from entering the mall for three years.

At 9:45 a.m., two men driving a late-‘70s model black Ford pickup truck with foot-high plywood extensions on the sides of the bed stole about 30 pieces of gray steel racking valued at $2,000 from Home Depot, 4100 N. 124th St.

Saturday

At 6:40 p.m., an Oak Lawn, IL, woman reported that sometime since 1:30 p.m. someone had stolen her wallet while she was shopping at Mayfair Mall and had used her credit cards to make more than $8,900 in purchases. The cards were used at a Milwaukee Walmart store and a Target store in Greenfield.

At 11:58 a.m., a Wauwatosa woman reported that someone had made $162 in fraudulent charges to her credit card via the Internet. The woman remembered receiving a call last year from a person claiming to be from the Census Bureau. She gave the caller her name, date of birth, address and Social Security number.

At 11:12 a.m., a Wauwatosa woman reported that someone made a purchase of $79.68 on her credit card without her consent and attempted other to make other charges, alerting her bank to possible fraud. The woman did not know how her card number had been compromised.

At 1 a.m., a Milwaukee woman reported that sometime since 11:15 p.m. Friday someone had smashed the passenger side window of her car and stolen her laptop computer while she was inside Buffalo Wild Wings, 2635 N. Mayfair Rd.

Friday

At 8:15 p.m., a Milwaukee woman reported that while she was outside a Starbucks shop at Mayfair Mall, someone had stolen her wallet. She had set the wallet down on a ledge and forgotten it. When she realized she had left it and returned a few minutes later, the wallet was gone.

At 8:15 p.m., a Wauwatosa woman reported that someone had smashed the front window of her home in the 11900 block of West Meinecke Avenue. The woman had been at home reading to her children when the doorbell began ringing repeatedly. Before she could answer, she heard loud laughter, a loud thud, and the sound of people running away.

At 6:07 p.m., three Wauwatosa boys, two 17 years old and one 16, were arrested for underage drinking at a residence in the 2600 block of North 71st St. An officer responding to call about someone sleeping in the yard tried to wake the 16-year-old and found him to be so intoxicated he could not give his name. The boy’s mother arrived and gave her son’s name and told police that he had called her earlier to say that he was going to a friend’s house – the house where he was found. The two 17-year-olds were found in the house, also intoxicated, so they joined their friend for a trip to the police station. The boys had been drinking shots of vodka since school had gotten out.

At 3:45 p.m., a Wauwatosa woman reported that at sometime since 7:30 a.m. someone had smashed the rear window of her car while it was parked on West Garfield Street west of 68th Street.

At 3:41 p.m., a Wauwatosa man reported that at sometime since 9:30 p.m. Thursday someone had rifled his unlocked car and stolen several charging devices and cables worth a total of $95.
