Police Report: Update on Crime in Wauwatosa

At 4:05 p.m. Thursday, a 31-year-old West Allis man was arrested for theft and possession of drug paraphernalia after he was seen concealing three Xbox games in his jacket at , 2421 N. Mayfair Rd.

Police were called because employees recognized the man as the same suspect who on several earlier occasions run out of the store after hanging around in the game section, setting off sensor alarms. In those instances, store personnel had been unable to catch the thief or determine exactly what was stolen.

This time, police stopped him in the store and asked him whether he had any concealed merchandise, to which he replied, “I have some games inside my jacket.” Police then asked if he intended to steal them, and he said, “Yes, I was gonna take them.” Asked if police could search his car, he said, “Sure.”

Whereupon, officers found “a plethora” of drug implements, including three syringes, two packs of extra-small cotton balls, five “cooking caps,” alcohol wipes, two rubber arm straps and two razor blades. The man said that when he gave permission to search the car, he had forgotten about all his drug gear being there.

He said he had been a heroin addict for about four years. The three “Alice – Madness Returns” games he tried to steal retail for $59.99 each. The man said he can usually sell his ill-gotten goods at game stores for about a quarter of their retail value.

Thursday

Police were called to the pharmacy at the store at 10800 W. Capitol Dr. on a report of a fraudulent prescription filled the night before. A customer at the drive-through window had presented a prescription for 120 15mg Oxycodone tablets from a doctor at . When the customer returned to pick it up, she had no identification as required by law, but the pharmacy technician accepted the ID of a passenger in the car and billed the transaction to Medicaid. A check of the sale Thursday morning showed that the same “patient” had obtained 120 30mg Oxycodone tabs on June 6 at another Walgreens store with a prescription from the same pad and just one sequence number lower. A check with Froedtert showed no such patient on record.

At 12:45 a.m., a 40-year-old Milwaukee woman was arrested for drunken driving, first offense, during a traffic stop in the 11200 block of West Burleigh Street. Police had received a 911 call from a woman who said she was following a possibly intoxicated driver who was weaving from lane to lane and crossing the center line. When stopped, the woman claimed she wasn’t drunk but had an open wine cooler in the car. She could not recite the alphabet in four attempts, failed a field sobriety test and finally blew a .17 blood alcohol content on a breath test. The woman became belligerent and told officers she had left her four children alone at home.

Wednesday

A resident of the 1200 block of North 68th Street was being sought on probable cause for battery after he beat up his live-in girlfriend in a domestic dispute.

A resident of the 2500 block of Swan Boulevard reported that prescription drugs, coins and jewelry had been taken from his home and that he strongly suspected a young man he had hired to do yard work and who was allowed to come inside to use the bathroom. Police had so far been unable to locate the suspect.

Several instances of cars being entered and rifled overnight were reported in the area of the 10400 block of West Vienna Avenue and nearby on West Feerick Place. In one incident, a GPS unit was taken; in the other two, only loose change and some currency was stolen.

At 1:10 a.m., a 23-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested for driving while under the influence of narcotics, first offense, after a traffic stop for a non-operating taillight in the 2200 block of Wauwatosa Avenue. The man was found to be in possession of marijuana and admitted to having smoked some earlier.

Monday

A 16-year-old Wauwatosa boy was arrested for theft and possession of alcohol as a minor after he was caught trying to steal a bottle of Jack Daniels whiskey from , 6950 W. State St. A 17-year-old Wauwatosa boy who was with him was arrested as party to a crime. The 16-year-old had been seen three times earlier on surveillance video, always stealing one bottle of Jack Daniels.

At 12:31 a.m., a 38-year-old Milwaukee woman was arrested for drunken driving, first offense, after she hit a parked car in the 2300 block of North 70th Street and showed signs of being intoxicated. She performed poorly on a field sobriety test and blew a .13 BAC.
