Police Report: Update on Crime in Wauwatosa

The law caught up with several drunken drivers over the past weekend.

Police reports were made available on the following incidents since Friday.

Sunday

At 9:26 p.m., a 28-year-old Milwaukee woman was arrested for drunken driving in the 1200 block of North Mayfair Road after police received a call about a reckless driver. A patrol officer stopped the woman and smelled alcohol. The woman said she had drunk only two glasses of wine, but she failed a field sobriety test and registered a blood alcohol content of .10. It was her first offense.

At 5:51 p.m., a resident of the 6600 block of Hillside Lane reported that her car had been stolen from her driveway sometime between 2 p.m. that afternoon and 4 p.m. the day before. She told police the car was unlocked and could be started without a key.

At 1:51 a.m., a 24-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested for drunken driving, second offense, in the 1000 block of North Mayfair Road, after a patrol officer saw the car being driven erratically. The driver failed a field sobriety test and refused a breath test, so he was forced to give a blood sample.

Saturday

At 11:07 p.m., a Kenosha woman reported that sometime since 9 p.m., her car had been broken into and rifled while it was parked at Dave & Buster’s, 2201 N. Mayfair Rd. She said that a purse and belonging to a friend was missing, along with her work keys and another friend’s house and car keys. The value of the loss was set at $1,283.90; the damage to the car was $300.

At 6:49 p.m., a 19-year-old Milwaukee woman was arrested on a fugitive warrant from Washington County after she was detained to investigate a retail theft from Gymboree at Mayfair Mall. The woman had merchandise from the store concealed in a stroller, but the manager did not wish to pursue charges. The police report did not say what the warrant was for.

At 3:32 p.m., a 67-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested after he tried to steal five steaks from Metcalfe’s Sentry, 6700 W. State. St. He was seen on surveillance putting New York strip steaks in a plastic bag and then trying to leave the store without paying. The meat was valued at $61.77.

At 2:30 p.m., a 27-year-old Cudahy woman was arrested on two counts of retail thefts, two fugitive warrants and one count of bail jumping, and a 26-year-old Oak Creek man was arrested for being party to a crime, bail jumping and on an outstanding warrant. A patrol officer was flagged down by an employee of Macy’s at Mayfair Mall, who said two theft suspects had just fled from the parking lot in a car. The officer pursued and stopped the car, recovered $620 worth of stolen property, and discovered that both the driver and her passenger had warrants out for retail theft and were both wanted on felony charges of bail jumping stemming from narcotics charges. The two were also in possession of syringes and other paraphernalia and admitted to being heroin addicts.

At 12:46 a.m., a 36-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested for drunken driving, first offense, after he was stopped in the 100 block of North Mayfair Road for having a suspended registration. The driver failed a field sobriety test and registered a .12 blood alcohol content in a breath test.

Friday

At 9:41 p.m., a 29-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested for marijuana possession and on a felony warrant for marijuana possession after an officer approached his unlicensed car parked at Dave & Buster’s, 2201 N. Mayfair Rd. The officer smelled a strong odor of marijuana and confirmed the presence of the drug with the help of a drug-sniffing K9 officer.

At 7:57 p.m., a Milwaukee woman reported that sometime since 2 p.m., someone had smashed the window of her car while it was parked in the Lower Harwood Parking Lot, 7735 Harwood Ave. Nothing was noticed to be missing from her car.

At 6:33 p.m., a 31-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested for theft and bail jumping after he was seen stealing a laptop computer from Radio Shack, 6407 W. North Ave. The man had left the store on foot and was spotted by a patrol officer who caught him after a short foot chase. The man told police he has a drug problem and steals to support his habit. He has three open cases in Milwaukee County and a record of 12 arrests for retail theft.

The owner of Raylyn Contractors, 12020 W. Ripley Ave. reported that sometime earlier in the week someone had stolen a trailer worth $4,000 from his business. He knew of no suspects in the theft.

At 8:30 a.m., a resident of the 11300 block of West North Avenue reported that sometime since 11 p.m. the night before, someone had stolen the rear license plate from his car while it was parked behind his apartment.
