Police Report: Update on Crime in Wauwatosa
Vehicle break-ins continue and a number of incidents of stolen license plates are reported.
Sunday
At 6 a.m., a resident of the 2100 block of North 83rd Street reported that sometime since 3:25 a.m. someone had smashed the driver’s side window of his minivan while it was parked in his driveway. Nothing was missing from the vehicle.
At 6:30 a.m., a 26-year-old Milwaukee woman was arrested for drunken driving after she crashed her car into a tree an hour earlier in the 3300 block of North Mayfair Road. She was also arrested on two fugitive warrants, one from Kenosha and one from Milwaukee County. The woman had driven onto the median and struck and broke off two trees and a street sign.

At 2:29 a.m., two 21-year-old men, one from Wauwatosa and one from Milwaukee, were arrested for disorderly conduct at Leff’s Lucky Town, 7208 W. State St. The Wauwatosa man was also arrested for possession of marijuana. The two had been creating a disturbance in the tavern, yelling and swearing, and the Milwaukee man spit on a police officer when he was being questioned.

At 1:53 p.m., a 37-year-old Milwaukee woman was arrested on a Milwaukee County warrant after a minor traffic accident at North Mayfair Road and West Center Street. She was wanted for disorderly conduct.
At 10:39 a.m., a Brookfield man reported that at some time between 1 and 2 a.m. someone had smashed both the front and rear windows of his car and dented it with a bowling ball while he was inside Bowlero, 11737 W. Burleigh St. The bowling ball was found in the back seat. The man had waited to report the vandalism and had handled the bowling ball extensively since finding it. Damage to his car was estimated at $800.
At 9:31 a.m., a 40-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested on a Milwaukee County fugitive warrant for hit and run after he accidentally set off a burglar alarm at his workplace. In the process of conducting a standard identity check, police learned of the warrant.
At 12:33 a.m., a 51-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested on a Waukesha County warrant for family contempt with a bond amount of $4,060 after he was stopped for a registration violation in the 2100 block of North Mayfair Road.
At 12:10 a.m., a 36-year-old St. Francis man was arrested for drunken driving at North Mayfair Road and West Capitol Drive. A patrol officer saw the man make a turn onto Capitol directly in the path of another vehicle that had the right of way, then veer repeatedly back and forth across three lanes of traffic, striking the median curb. The driver was obviously intoxicated, failed a field sobriety test and registered a .22 blood alcohol content.
Friday
At 7:48 p.m., three Milwaukee women were arrested in an incident that started with a retail theft report at the Buckle store in Mayfair Mall. A 23-year-old woman was caught with about $400 worth of merchandise from Buckle and Macy’s and was arrested for retail theft. A 21-year-old woman with her was arrested for possession of marijuana and on an outstanding warrant. A 36-year-old woman was arrested for possession of stolen merchandise when she was found to be trying to return items to Macy’s that she had taken without paying on an earlier occasion.
At 12:53 p.m., a 30-year-old Milwaukee woman was arrested for vandalizing a car parked at Mayfair Mall and the 21-year-old Milwaukee woman who owns the car was arrested on an outstanding warrant from Brown Deer. The two women were seen on closed circuit video having an argument the older woman was seen a short time later returning to the other woman’s car and breaking off its windshield wipers.
At 10 a.m., a resident of the 6800 block of West Lloyd Street reported that sometime overnight, someone had stolen the rear license plate off her car while it was parked next to her home.
At 8:47 a.m., a Pewaukee man reported that someone had just broken into his work van by smashing a window and stolen his laptop computer and his lunch bucket. The theft occurred in the 9800 block of West Blue Mound Road. A man was seen lurking nearby shortly before the theft was discovered, but he could not be found afterward.
Thursday
At 9:15 p.m., a resident of the 2400 block of North 66th Street reported that at some time since 8:30 a.m., someone had entered his home and stolen a flat-screen TV and a vacuum cleaner. He came home and found the front door open and items strewn around the house. He told police he thought the door had been locked but it might not have been. Officers found no sign of forced entry.
A resident of 2600 block of North 66th Street was arrested for lewd and lascivious behavior after he had been seen and videotaped Tuesday afternoon masturbating at his open back porch door.
Wednesday
At 7:26 p.m., a 20-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested for retail theft at Pick ‘n Save, 6950 W. State St., after he was caught trying to leave the store with three bottles of vodka concealed in his jacket.
At 2:45 p.m., a Milwaukee woman reported that $406 had been stolen from her purse and the West Suburban YMCA, 2420 N. 124th St., within the previous half-hour. The woman said she left the purse in a bag in a locker room, unattended, for a minute while she exchanged locker keys at the desk. She noticed the loss when she left the Y and remembered seeing an employee in the room at the time. The employee was questioned and denied taking the money.
At 5:07 p.m., a 23-year-old Milwaukee woman was arrested on a Brown Deer warrant for retail theft after she was stopped for speeding in the 10400 block of West Capitol Drive. She also had a suspended license.
At 4:32 p.m., a 17-year-old Brookfield boy was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia after he and two other teens were seen acting suspiciously in car at Mayfair Mall. After they got out of the car, a police officer approached it and could smell marijuana through a partially open window. A marijuana pipe was found in the trunk of the car.
At 4:05 p.m., a Wauwatosa West High School student reported that at sometime between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. someone had broken into his car and stolen his stereo system. The front passenger door had been pried open with a tool and the ignition system was damaged when the stereo was being removed.
At 2:46 p.m., a 13-year-old Milwaukee girl was arrested for disorderly conduct at Longfellow Middle School after she started a fight with another student. The girl punched and tackled a classmate and has had a number of disciplinary citations in the past.
At 1:45 p.m., a Milwaukee woman reported that at some time since 1:15 p.m. someone had broken into her car and stolen her purse while she was in the Family Dollar Store at 2851 N. Mayfair Rd. The front driver’s side window had been smashed.
At 9:08 a.m., a 29-year-old Milwaukee woman working at Maggiano’s restaurant at Mayfair Mall was arrested for theft after she used a customer’s gift card to give herself $76 in credit.
Tuesday
At 7:46 p.m., a 51-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested for trespassing after he let himself into an unlocked home in the 7300 block of West Garfield Avenue and went to sleep in the resident’s bed. The man was highly intoxicated. Nothing in the home was taken or disturbed.
At 6:25 p.m., a Milwaukee man reported that sometime between 2 and 3 p.m. Sunday someone had stolen the license plate off his car while he was inside the Goodwill store at 12121 W. Feerick St. He did not report the theft until after the license plate had been used in a gasoline drive-off theft in Menomonee Falls on Monday.
At 3:52 p.m., two Milwaukee women, one 41 and one 46, were arrested for retail theft at Boston Store at Mayfair Mall. The younger woman was also wanted on two warrants, including one state charge for manufacture and distribution of cocaine. The two women were seen concealing six purses worth more than $1,100 and leaving the store without paying for them.
At 12:50 p.m., a Greenfield man reported that someone had broken into his work truck and taken a number of tools while he and a coworker were inside Denny’s, 11155 W. North Ave.
Monday
At 8:59 p.m., a 29-year-old Waukesha woman was arrested a warrant for probation violation after she and another woman became belligerent when employees of Anne Taylor at Mayfair Mall would not take their check for a purchase.
At 8:53 p.m., a resident of the 2400 block of North 63rd Street reported that her car had just been stolen from the alley behind her home. The woman said that she had driven into the alley and seen a strange vehicle ahead of her. Her garage door opener was not working, so she got out of her car to open the door from the inside, leaving the motor running. When she opened the door, she saw someone get in her car and drive it away.
