Police Reports: 4-Year-Old Hit by Mail Van, Suffers Broken Leg

Girl ran into street just as USPS driver veered her way to avoid another car.

At 2:57 p.m. Saturday, a 4-year-old Wauwatosa girl was struck by a U.S. Postal Service delivery van and suffered a broken leg.

The USPS driver said that she darted into the street from his left just as he intentionally veered left over the center line in the 2200 block of North 65th Street because he was making way for a driver backing out of a driveway.

The child was treated at Children’s Hospital for a broken right tibia and fibula and released.

In other recent incidents:


A resident of the 8400 block of West Clarke Street reported that overnight someone entered her unlocked garage, rifled her daughter’s car and stole her bicycle. Nothing was missing from the car.


At 9:21 p.m., a 22-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested for disorderly conduct at , where he was employed by the cleaning department at the food court. He was in a hallway behind the food court to pick up his paycheck and was highly intoxicated. He refused to leave when a Mayfair safety supervisor asked him to, and were called to escort him out. He resisted arrest and screamed profanities in public and officers were forced to put him in a compliance hold to take him into custody.

At 2:19 p.m., a 20-year-old woman and a 16-year-old girl, both from Milwaukee, were arrested in the parking lot at Mayfair Mall after the woman was seen hiding a pair of sunglasses in her purse at . She was arrested for retail theft. The sunglasses were found inside the girl’s soda cup, so she was arrested for receiving stolen property.

A resident of the 2500 block of North 66th Street reported that overnight someone broke into his garage by smashing out a window and stole a bicycle.


At 3:12 p.m., police were called to on a report of a vehicle with its window smashed out, and an officer located the owner, who found that her purse had been stolen. She had arrived at the pool at about 1:30 p.m., and her husband had arrived and parked next to her car at about 2 p.m. and had not noticed anything amiss.

A resident of the 2600 block of North 62nd Street reported that between 12:45 and 1:45 p.m. someone entered her open garage and stole a bicycle.

A resident of the 2200 block of North 60th Street reported that overnight someone broke into her garage by prying open a window. Her car was rifled and a GPS unit was stolen, and a bicycle was taken as well.

The vice president of the , 1626 Wauwatosa Ave., reported that overnight vandals had broken a large concrete urn used as a planter on the club’s patio. The custom-ordered urn was valued at $200.

A resident of the 7700 block of Livingston Avenue reported that overnight someone entered her unlocked car in her driveway and her unlocked garage. Garage door openers were taken from the car and a bicycle was stolen from the garage.
