Police Reports: A Whole Set of Dumbbells

From the "with friends like these..." file:

At 2:25 a.m. Thursday, police were called to a home in the 7800 block of W. Wright St. on a report of an injury.

The officer who responded said he saw several people scattering from the residence when he arrived, and discovered that an underage drinking party had been going on.

A 17-year-old Wauwatosa boy was found hiding under the basement stairs and was cited for drinking, and a couple of other youths were rounded up for questioning.

An 18-year-old Wauwatosa man was bleeding profusely from a wound on the back of his head, and he and his friends said he had fallen down from drinking. He admitted he had drunk at least seven shots of whiskey.

But it eventually came out from the witnesses that the host, also an 18-year-old, had asked him to leave because he was so intoxicated. When he didn’t, the young man smacked his friend in the back of the head with a dumbbell.

The victim suffered a concussion and a laceration requiring six staples to close.

By the time police got to the bottom of things, the young man who hosted the party – a birthday party, in fact – had made himself scarce. He was located a couple of days later and arrested on suspicion of substantial battery with a dangerous weapon.

When told by police that friends who witnessed the incident independently corroborated that his host had bashed him, and that he and the others had concocted the story of him falling and hitting his head, the victim still didn't believe it.

He insisted that his buddy had no reason to attack him, perhaps forgetting that his good friend was also drunk.

A 2:16 p.m., an 18-year-old Milwaukee woman was arrested for retail theft at at after she was caught trying to steal five items of clothing worth $168. When a police officer arrived and asked her what happened, she said, “Isn’t it clear? I stole.”

Saturday

A 16-year-old Wauwatosa girl who was babysitting for residents in the 2300 block of North 91st Street reported that at 10:45 p.m. someone threw a drinking glass through the home’s living room picture window, shattering it. She did not believe the vandalism was directed at her as she could not think of anyone who knew she was sitting at the home who would have any reason to harass her.

At 7:15 p.m., a 55-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested after a retail theft at the . He had left the store but a police officer spotted him a short distance away with, he said, “merchandise sticking out of his pockets.”

At 10:09 a.m., a 23-year-old Wauwatosa woman was arrested for possession of a schedule IV controlled substance when police were called to her family home by her mother, who was concerned about her daughter’s drug use. The young woman had an assortment of pills including Xanax and Suboxone, for which she had no prescription.

At 12:07 a.m., a 19-year-old Milwaukee woman was arrested on a warrant for receiving stolen property after police were called to , 6750 W. State St., because the woman was banging on the windows of the closed restaurant. She said she had left her cell phone behind. In fact, one of her friends had taken it.

Friday

A Milwaukee woman reported that between 5:55 and 7:23 p.m., while she was at , 2201 N. Mayfair Rd., someone smashed a window in her car and stole a book bag. She said the bag contained a handful of music CDs and one very expensive textbook on employment and labor law.

Resident of the 2700 block of North 75th Street reported that between 8 a.m. and 5:15 p.m. someone broke into their home and stole their television, a laptop computer and an iPad. They had come home to find their side door kicked in.

At 5:05 p.m., two Milwaukee girls, 15 and 17 years old, were arrested for retail theft at Macy’s after they tried to steal $211.50 worth of clothing.

At 2:11 a.m., a 34-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested for drunken driving, his second offense, after a traffic stop for an illegal right turn from a left turn-only lane. He was barely able to complete the steps of a field sobriety test and refused a breath test.
