Police Reports: Burglary Suspect Was Expected

Homeowners, caretaker were on alert for the arrival of known drug addict who had already been arrested on suspicion of earlier thefts.

May 11

At 5:50 p.m., a suspect was arrested on suspicion of burglary of a residence in the 2500 block of North 82nd Street when he was seen at the premises by a caretaker for the owners. The known suspect was barred from the property and watched for because he was already suspected to be stealing to support a drug addiction. The young man had been arrested in April for stealing and forging checks from the same homeowners.

A resident of the 4200 block of North 92nd Street reported that overnight someone broke into his garage by smashing a window and stole a bicycle.

May 7

At 1:30 p.m., a man was arrested on suspicion of theft from Walmart Market, 3850 N. 124th St., after he was pursued into Milwaukee and caught with six bottles of laundry detergent. He admitted the theft, telling an officer, "You got me, man."

At 12:30 p.m., a woman was arrested for trespassing at Mayfair Mall when she was recognized at Forever 21 as someone who had been banned for retail theft. She had earlier been arrested in the same store with merchandise in a foil-lined "booster bag" and banned from the mall for five years. She told an officer she didn't realize the ban was from all of Mayfair and thought it was only from Forever 21. The officer hastened to correct her reasoning – she had, after all, been inside Forever 21 again when she was recognized and stopped.

At 2:51 p.m., a 16-year-old girl was arrested for theft from Gap Kids in Mayfair Mall after she was seen hiding a $30 dress in her purse.

May 6

A resident of the 8100 block of Stickney Avenue reported that her iPhone 5 had been stolen from her home sometime between 3:30 and 8 p.m. while she was out and her son had several new acquaintances over to visit. Her son, she said, could provide no information about the boys' identities, saying he barely knew them.

May 5

A resident of the 2300 block of North 63rd Street reported that overnight someone entered his unlocked garage and stole a bicycle.

At 4 p.m., a woman was arrested for theft from Target, 3900 N. 124th St., after she was seen hiding clothing items in a large purse she'd brought in empty. Store security recovered 14 items worth $143.07 retail.

May 4

A resident of the 2400 block of North 62nd Street reported that overnight someone entered her unlocked garage and stole loose cash and four pairs of sunglasses out of her car.

At 1:20 p.m., a man was arrested for theft from Macy's at Mayfair Mall after an off-duty store security agent who happened to be doing some shopping of his own saw the suspect taking and hiding a pair of $180 sunglasses from the unattended Sunglass Hut display, which normally would have been locked if not attended.

A resident of the 2100 block of North 62nd Street reported that overnight someone entered his car in his driveway and stole loose change. The owner thought he had locked his car but there was no sign of forced entry.

May 3

At 9:03 p.m., security at Target reported the theft of more than $500 worth of Sony Blu-Ray discs, along with the backpack the perpetrator stuffed them into before escaping. Employees and police recognized the man as the unknown suspect in at least one other recent theft from the same store of the same merchandise in the same way.

At 2:47 a.m., police found an SUV in the 2000 block of North 72nd Street that had been stolen sometime the night before from the driveway of a home in the 1800 block of North 70th Street. The vehice appeared undamaged.
