Police Reports: Dad Charged with Violating Restraining Order at School

At 3:21 p.m. Friday, a 51-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested at Roosevelt Elementary School for violation of a restraining order barring him from having contact with his ex-wife or their children.

Gilberto Martinez Garza was charged Monday in Milwaukee County Circuit Court.

Martinez Garza claimed he just wanted to check in with his children’s teachers and the principal about their progress in school, but he admitted he arrived when school would let out, a time when he would have expected his ex-wife come to pick up the kids.

He had been convicted twice in 2012 of violating the same injunction.

At 7:06 p.m., a 17-year-old Wauwatosa boy was arrested for disorderly conduct at Wauwatosa West High School after a basketball game when he refused to leave the building as asked and then began to yell profanities in front of other students, parents and children. Two police officers tried to escort him from the building and off the property, but ultimately they had to take him to the ground and handcuff him as he continued to resist.

At 3:51 p.m., police were called to the Radisson Hotel, 2303 N. Mayfair Rd., after a housekeeper found two handguns in a nightstand in one of the guest rooms. The weapons turned out to be CO2-powered BB guns. The overnight guest was identified by name from the register, but he had checked out earlier and the hotel could provide no further information about him.

At 1:51 p.m., a 20-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested for theft from Boston Store at Mayfair Mall after he was seen taking a pair of jeans into a fitting room and then coming out without them. The jeans were not left in the fitting room, so security followed the suspect to the mall doors and stopped him. He was wearing the new jeans under his own.

The owner of Papa Murphy’s pizza restaurant, 7630 Blue Mound Road, reported that he had video surveillance footage showing an employee entering his business the night before while it was closed and stealing cash from the office. Police reviewed the video and were seeking the 36-year-old West Allis woman, who had not returned to work after the incident.

A Brookfield woman reported that her car had been broken into between 6:45 and 7:45 a.m. while she was at the West Suburban YMCA, 2420 N. 124th St. A window had been shattered and her purse was stolen off the seat. At least one purchase was made with one of her credit cards before she could cancel her transactions.

Friday

A security guard for the Aurora Health Care psychiatric facility at 1220 Dewey Ave. reported that someone had vandalized an Aurora security Jeep by smashing two windows and the emergency light bar. A resident in an Aurora building reported that about 9:15 p.m. he had heard seven or eight loud crashing sounds and had gone out in time to see two young males, he thought about 14 years old, running away with what looked like a crowbar. He saw what had happened to the Jeep and reported it to the guard.

At 7:50 p.m., a 28-year-old Milwaukee woman was arrested for felony theft at Boston Store after she was seen rapidly loading men’s coats and other clothing into a cart without looking at sizes or prices. She left the store without paying and was stopped and found to have more than $600 worth of merchandise. The woman had her 8-month-old child with her and claimed she needed to steal so she could sell the goods to pay for methadone treatments. She also had two warrants, was unable to post bond, and was sent to the County Jail. The child was turned over to his father in the police station lobby.

A Wauwatosa woman reported that a window had been smashed in her car while she was at Anytime Fitness, 8901 W. North Ave., between 6:10 and 6:40 p.m., and while investigating, police found that a window in another car, also belonging to a Wauwatosa woman, had been broken as well. The owner was found in John’s Sandwich Shop, 8913 W. North Ave. Nothing was taken from either vehicle.
