Police Reports: Roundup of Recent Incidents in Wauwatosa

Thursday

A resident of retirement home, 10101 W. Wisconsin Ave., reported that personal checks had been stolen from her and three of them cashed at North Shore Bank, 7927 W. Capitol Dr., Milwaukee, for a total of $2,867. The bank confirmed the transactions and is assisting in the investigation.

A Nashotah man reported that some time between 10:08 and 10:37 a.m. someone broke into his company vehicle while he was at the at 1717 N. Mayfair Rd., smashing a window and stealing a computer belonging to him and a cell phone belonging to Roundy’s Supermarkets.

Wednesday

At 11:58 p.m., a 15-year-old Wauwatosa boy was arrested for loitering and violating curfew when a patrol officer saw him at the corner of North 73rd Street and West North Avenue and recognized him from earlier encounters as a juvenile. The boy said he was waiting for a bus to take him to a friend’s house on the east side of Milwaukee and didn’t plan to go to school in the morning. The officer took him into custody, booked him and then drove him home. Twenty minutes later, the boy’s mother called police to report that her son was being argumentative because he wanted her to drive him to the east side and she wouldn’t. Police stopped by again to inform the boy that the only place he would be going was to bed.

A Shorewood woman reported that some time between 7:30 and 8:45 p.m. someone threw a brick through the window of her car and stole her briefcase and its contents while it was parked in the 2300 block  of North 65th Street.

At 3:02 p.m., a 17-year-old Hartland girl was arrested for theft after stealing a $148 pair of jeans from at . Mall security got the license number of the vehicle she left in, and when police reached her by phone, she admitted the theft. She was banned from Mayfair for five years.

A man from Montevideo, Uruguay, reported at 6:45 a.m. that some time overnight someone had smashed a window in his rental car and stolen the rental company’s GPS while it was parked at the , 2303 N. Mayfair Rd. Police had earlier investigated another break-in in the Radisson lot in which a window was broken and loose change stolen.

Administrators at reported four students as habitually absent and asked police to issue citations for truancy. Tickets were written for two Wauwatosa girls, one 16 and one 17, and two 15-year-old boys, one from Wauwatosa and one from Milwaukee. The Milwaukee boy had not attended school since he was last cited for truancy in November.

managers reported they had discovered that checks, one for $1,559.24 and one for $1,442.13, cashed at two Wauwatosa branch banks by two different men on Dec. 27 were frauds written on a New Berlin company. The men, seen on video surveillance footage, are known to police and are both on probation and parole for felony convictions.

Tuesday

A resident of the 8300 block of Gridley Avenue reported that some time during the past week someone had entered his detached garage and stolen a snow blower worth $500. He said he believed the garage had been locked but police could find no sign of forcible entry.

A Hartland woman reported that some time between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. someone smashed in a window in her car while it was parked at , 201 N. Mayfair Rd. She had two empty computer equipment boxes in the car and believed the thief must have thought they had merchandise in them. Nothing was stolen.

A Wauwatosa man reported that on Thursday and Friday of last week someone racked up more than $5,000 in charges to his credit card account in Orlando, FL, overdrawing his credit limit. He said the card had not been stolen and he had no idea how his card number had been accessed.

A resident of the 2400 block of North 88th Street reported the theft of a pro-Gov. Scott Walker sign from his front yard some time between 9 p.m. Monday and 2 p.m. Tuesday.

At 2:04 p.m., a 40-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested for theft at , 6700 W. State St., after he tried to steal a variety of hygiene products. Store personnel recognized him from earlier thefts and watched him from the minute he entered the store.

During snowy weather between 7:24 and 11:26 a.m., investigated 11 traffic accidents related to inattention to hazardous driving conditions. Only one minor injury was reported, a woman who was treated at the scene.

Monday

Wauwatosa police took a 28-year-old Rubicon man into custody and then turned him over to Hartford police after he tried to buy Oxycodone at a pharmacy there on a fraudulent prescription that was written on a prescription pad police believe was stolen from Beaver Medical Clinic at 11040 Blue Mound Rd. in Wauwatosa.

At 3:20 p.m., two Milwaukee girls, 14 and 15 years old, were arrested for possession of stolen property after they tried to flee from Mayfair Mall with bags of stolen merchandise.

, 1826 N. Mayfair Rd., reported as stolen a 2012 Ford Fiesta that was rented to a 57-year-old Waukesha woman on Dec. 2 and has not been returned.

Sunday

At 8:42 p.m., a 51-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested for his third drunken driving offense after a patrol officer saw him crash into a temporary stop sign at the corner of West North Avenue and North Mayfair Road. Traffic lights and streets lights were out at the time during a power failure. The officer followed with lights flashing as the driver dragged the sign under his car for some distance before it fell away in the middle of Mayfair Road. The man turned in to Mayfair Mall and stopped for the officer. She said his speech was slurred and he smelled of alcohol. He performed poorly on a sobriety test, had a number of empty beer cans in the back of his car, and scored a whopping .27 blood alcohol content on a breath test. He had previous OWI convictions in 1992 and 2008.

Saturday

At 7:15 p.m., a 51-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested for first offense operating while under the influence after he was stopped at West North and Ludington avenues for dangerously erratic driving. He was clearly very intoxicated and had an open 16-ounce can of beer in his cupholder. He blew only a .035 BAC on a breath test but admitted to having mixed the alcohol with Percocet, a narcotic, for back pain.
