Police Say Tosa's Night Out Will Go On Despite Weather

Severe storm forecasts could put a damper on some outdoor activities, especially later in the evening.

As of 1:30 p.m., Tosa's Night Out was scheduled to go on regardless of the weather, a Police Department spokeswoman said.

The event will begin at 4 p.m. with family activities outdoors in Hart Park and public health and safety displays indoors in the Muellner Building.

"I just called down there 20 minutes ago when it started to rain the first time," said community support officer Laura Laurishke said Tuesday afternoon. "They said everything is going ahead as scheduled."

"Bring rain gear," she added.

It is possible some plans could change on a moment's notice, however.

A heat advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service until 7 p.m., and strong to severe thunderstorm warnings have been issued as well. The current forecast calls for the highest chance of thunderstorms, 70 percent, from 7 to 9 p.m.

That would put the greatest risk right before and during the popular Family Flashlight Walk Against Crime, beginning at 8 p.m., and just before the fireworks show is scheduled to begin.

A crowd as large as 5,000 was expected for Tosa's Night Out.
