Ravenswood Resident Encounters Burglar in Home

In quiet, low-crime neighborhood, homeowner has a run-in with a burglar who climbed into his second story while he was watching TV below.

A Wauwatosa man had a close encounter of the worst kind when he encountered a burglar in his Ravenswood home as he was coming up from downstairs.

Fortunately, the break-in artist wanted no confrontation and galloped out of a second-story balcony door and off the roof, the same way he came.

At about 10 p.m. July 16, the resident of the 100 block of North 85th Street was watching TV in his kitchen when he heard a noise like footsteps from his upstairs or roof, he wasn't sure which.

In the moment, he didn't think much of it, but a bit later he heard more distinct footseps upstairs and decided to investigate. He started up the stairs and called, "Hello? Hello?" – and just as he did so, he saw that the upper balcony door was ajar.

Suddenly, a man ran into view through the hallway and right out the balcony door.

Before calling police, he took a quick look around and found that two cabinets and a dresser in an upstairs bedroom had been rifled.

After calling police and a going through the room and contents with them thoroughly, he realized he was missing a gold watch and a gold tooth.

He described the suspect as a white male, 20 to 25 years old, 5-feet-4- to 5-feet-6-inches tall, weighing about 120 to 130 pounds, wearing a dark hat, dark pants and an old, faded blue jacket.

Police officers determined the burglar had climbed onto a sidewalk railing below a small section of overhanging roof at the back of the home, then walked onto the balcony and through the unlocked door.
