Sunday Night Saw Groups of Home Burglaries, Car and Garage Break-ins

Two small areas of city hit hard on the same night.

Clusters of burglaries to homes and a garage and break-ins to cars that occurred at about the same time and in two tight proximities likely included some that were related.

Five of six incidents certainly occurred late Sunday or early Monday, and the other possibly did, too. Fortunately, similar incidents did not continue through the week.

Three central Tosa homes hit

At 5:16 a.m. Monday, a couple that lives in the 2400 block of Pasadena Boulevard reported that their home had been burglarized while they slept and $1,670 worth of their property had been stolen.

They had found the back door standing open in the morning and realized that their sons had inadvertently left it unlocked before going to bed.

At 9:04 a.m., a resident of the 2300 block of North 86th Street, just a little more than a block away, reported that some time overnight someone had burglarized his home and stolen two laptop computers and a digital camera while he slept.

He said that he had fallen asleep on his couch before securing the house for the night, and in the morning saw that he had received an e-mail message at 3:47 a.m. from his home security provider informing him that his back door had been opened.

He told officers that one of the features of his service is that it will inform him of any entry between midnight and 7 a.m. regardless of whether the doors are locked.

At 4:36 p.m. Tuesday a resident of the 8100 block of Warren Avenue reported that some time since Sunday morning, while his family was away from home, someone had burglarized his home and taken three bottles of liquor, $280 in cash and a coin collection worth $100.

Police found no signs of a forced entry. The homeowner said he suspected that someone had come in through a window that had a broken lock and could not be secured.

Activity in East Tosa

Meanwhile, a resident of the 2300 block of North 64th Street reported that some time between 9 p.m. Sunday and 12:15 a.m. Monday his garage had been burglarized. His car had been entered and a CD player and an Apple iPod stolen from it, and his bicycle had been stolen from the garage and another bike left in its place.

A bicycle matching the description of his was later found by patrol officers, but the owner could not then be reached to identify it.

A block away, a resident of the 2300 block of North 63rd Street reported that someone had entered her car and stolen rental property keys and the owner’s manual for the car. She said she thought she had locked the car but officers found no sign of forced entry.

At 5:36 a.m., a nearby resident of the 2100 block of North 65th Street reported that some time overnight someone had smashed the window of his minivan and damaged the ignition in what appeared to be an attempt to steal it.
