Tosa Man's Third Arrest Among Suspected Drunken Driving Cases

At 4:07 p.m. Sunday, a 51-year-old Wauwatosa man was arrested on suspicion of his third drunken driving offense after police were called about a vehicle stuck over the curb in the 1400 block of North 68th Street.

An officer arrived to find a Chevy Silverado careened onto an incline between two driveways, blocking both and still running. The driver was digging around a rear wheel with a snow shovel.

He tried to explain that he had attempted a complicated “spin around” turn to get into a driveway across the street and come to grief.

The officer noted that his speech was slurred and he smelled of alcohol, and he asked the man if he had been drinking. He had, he said – about five drinks that afternoon, with the bartenders at Kam’s Corner Tap, at North 84th Street and Lisbon Road, Milwaukee.

He was unable to complete the steps of a field sobriety test without falling down, and at 7 p.m., he blew a .22 blood alcohol concentration on a breath test. The suspect had previously been arrested for OWI in 1995 and 2002.

'A few beers' put driver across the line for 2nd time

At 2:56 a.m. Friday, a 35-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, second offense, after a patrol officer saw him driving erratically on North 68th Street south of Blue Mound Road.

He said the suspect weaved over the center line several times and then suddenly veered entirely into the oncoming lane, at which point the officer stopped him.

The driver, the officer said, smelled strongly of alcohol and admitted having had “a few beers” at Joey’s Mob Scene, 4500 Forest Home Ave., in Greenfield. He said he was headed home but failed to explain how it was that he was headed back south at the time from the middle of Wauwatosa.

A computer check showed that the suspect had been convicted of his first OWI in November 2010 and that his driver’s license was revoked.

He began field sobriety tests but then refused to complete them. He also refused to submit to a breath test and was taken to Wisconsin Heart Hospital for a mandatory blood draw.

Speeding stop ends in first OWI arrest

At 11:24 p.m. Thursday, a 52-year-old Brown Deer man was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving, first offense, after he was stopped for speeding, having been clocked at 47 mph on West North Avenue as he passed a patrol officer monitoring traffic at North 83rd Street in a 30-mph zone.

The officer said the driver’s speech was slurred and his eyes were bloodshot and glassy. He admitted having had “a couple” at Buffalo Wild Wings, 2635 N. Mayfair Rd.

He had difficulty maintaining his balance for any of the steps of a field sobriety test but blamed his problems on a clubbed right foot and a badly bruised left knee, which appeared to be at least partly the case. He blew a .09 BAC.
