Tosa Tanning Salon Robbed by Armed Man

Lone employee is held up at gunpoint while a customer relaxes in a tanning bed without knowing what was happening.

Wauwatosa police are seeking an unknown suspect in the armed robbery Sunday of a Blue Mound Road tanning salon.

One employee and a customer were at Sun-Kissed Salon, 11607 Blue Mound, when the employee heard the entrance bell at about 2:30 p.m. Sunday. She had just stepped into an office and came out to find a masked man facing her with a gun.

He said, "Give me all the money," she told officers, brought up the gun and pointed it at her, and said, "I'm serious."

The robber stood behind, training the gun on her, as she opened the cash register and began to take out money. Then he reached forward and grabbed the drawer, pulling it out to check for large bills underneath. He took those and snatched a handful of bills from the victim, then walked out without another word.

The customer, in a tanning bed with a fan running and music playing, never saw or heard a thing.

Three witnesses in the neighborhood said they saw a man running from the direction of the salon at the time of the crime, and he jumped into a black VW Jetta that was waiting with someone else at the wheel. They said it began to roll before the runner was inside and then sped off when he climbed in. No one was able to get a license number.

The victim described the robber as white, with a deep tan, in his early to mid-20s, 5-feet-10-inches to 6-feet tall, 160 to 180 pounds, with brown hair showing under the maroon, hooded, Hollister-brand sweatshirt he was wearing. He was also wearing khaki cargo shorts and had a bandanna covering his face to the middle of his nose.

Anyone with any information they believe pertains to the crime or a suspect should call the Wauwatosa Police Department at 414-471-8430.
