WISN: Tosa Man Says Trayvon Martin's Name Invoked As He Was Beaten

Christopher Simpson was treated for injuries suffered in the attack that came soon after George Zimmerman was acquitted.

A Wauwatosa man told police he heard a reference to Trayvon Martin as he was beaten in Milwaukee on Sunday evening.

According to our partners at WISN 12 News, Christopher Simpson told police he was walking through a park, located in the 2600 block of West Cherry Street, when he was struck from behind and knocked to the ground. He said several other people joined in, then ran. Simpson and a witness said at least one attacker referenced Trayvon Martin, a Florida teen who was shot to death last year by Neighborhood Watch particpant George Zimmerman. Zimmerman was found not guilty in that shooting on Sunday, a decision which angered many African-Americans.

Simpson visited a hospital for treatment of a broken hand and injuries to his chest, head and arms, WISN reported. No one is in custody.
