Woman OD's on Heroin in Mayfair Lot; Boyfriend Arrested

Man admits leaving his girlfriend alone in parking lot, unconscious after injecting narcotic, while he goes inside to flush evidence down the toilet.

A 26-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested Thursday as a fugitive on a felony warrant after his girlfriend, a 27-year-old Elm Grove woman, overdosed on heroin in her car in the parking lot of Mayfair Mall, according to Wauwatosa police reports.

Officers and paramedics were called at 8:52 p.m. on a report of an unresponsive woman at the wheel of a car, and they found the woman alone and semi-conscious, pale and “very sweaty.”

She could not roll down her window or unlock her door for some time. When she finally did, she was incoherent. Police noted a man’s belt on the passenger seat and several small napkins stained with blood that had been tossed out of the car.

While paramedics assisted her in an ambulance, her boyfriend walked up and asked if she was all right. Told that she appeared to have overdosed, he assured officers that she had.

According to a version he told one officer, they had come to the mall to shop at Boston Store, where his girlfriend wanted to buy a purse.

But first, they shot up heroin together in the car, he said, and when she passed out, he decided to go into the mall to flush the evidence down a toilet. He said he had checked that she was breathing before leaving her in the car and that he wasn’t worried because she had many times before passed out after shooting up.

He told another officer, however, that his girlfrend had shot up in the car first, and that he got scared when she became unconscious because he was on probation. He went in to the mall, he said, to flush the evidence, then decided to shoot up himself in the bathroom.

In any case, he was indeed on probation for multiple felonies, had a felony warrant for his arrest for violation of probation, and by his own addmission had again violated probation by ignoring both an order of absolute sobriety and a no contact order with the Brookfield woman. He was sent to jail.

The man has three felony convictions for possession of narcotics and three convictions for operating while intoxicated or under the influence of a restricted substance, all since 2010.

His girlfriend was treated at the scene and declined to be taken to the hospital. She told officers she had been a heroin addict for five years.

Such behavior is by no means unique to Mayfair. Last week, Brookfield Patch reported the arrest and charging of a man who shot heroin and overdosed in the family restroom off the food court at Brookfield Square mall.
