70th St. Bridge to Open Friday in Time for HartFest

Cold, rainy spring slowed project, but city engineer says bridge will be open for festival traffic.

The rebuilt 70th Street bridge will open Friday just in time for in Hart Park, city engineer Bill Wehrley said.

While there has been access on 70th Street to Hart Park from State Street to the north during reconstruction of the bridge, access from the south has been cut off since the project began early last fall.

"It will be open – if we don't get a lot of rain," Wehrley said. "It might not be completely finished in every last detail, but it is substantially done and ready to carry traffic."
