Daily Recall Election Roundup: May 4

Every day between now and Tuesday's primary recall elections, Patch will provide regular updates on what's happening in the campaigns of those who want to be our next governor. Check back with this column throughout the day for the latest from the campaign trail.

3:05 p.m.:  The Friends of Scott Walker campaign unveiled a new website today, VoteScottWalker.com. The website offers the governor's supporters information about how to vote absentee and how to contribute money and volunteer to Walker's campaign. The website will also deliver election day reminders to subscribers and help Walker supporters spread campaign information to friends through social media.

11:40 a.m.: Four Democratic candidates will debate tonight

All four Democratic gubernatorial candidates vying for the chance to take on Gov. Scott Walker in the June 5 recall election will debate each other at the University of Wisconsin-Madison tonight.

The debate will stream live from Madison on the Journal Sentinel website from 7 to 8 p.m., and will be broadcast on WTMJ-TV's secondary channel, 4.2 over the air and on Time Warner Digital Cable Channel 999 in the Milwaukee market; WTMJ-AM (620); and public television and radio stations across the state, according to the Journal Sentinel.

The four Democratic candidates in the primary race are Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett; former Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk; state Sen. Kathleen Vinehout; and Secretary of State Doug La Follette.

10:50 a.m.: At least $42 million spent in recall election

The recall primary election hasn't even been held, and the amount of campaign money pouring into Wisconsin has already broken any previous record.

At least $42 million has already been spent by candidates and interest groups, with most of the money coming from out of state, according to the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign. The most expensive election before this year's was the 2010 race for governor, in which $37.4 million was spent, according to the WDC.

10:25 a.m.: Dems plan unity rally day after election

Regardless of who wins the Democratic gubernatorial primary election on Tuesday, all four of the party's candidates will take place in a unity rally the day after the election.

Tom Barrett, Kathleen Falk, Doug La Follette and Kathleen Vinehout all have agreed to take part in the "Wisconsin Together" rally Wednesday on the steps of the state Capitol.

The rally, which will start at 6:30 p.m., will include comments by the primary winner and lieutenant governor candidate Mahlon Mitchell, who is unopposed Tuesday.

The event, which will be emceed by Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chairman Mike Tate, also will feature music from DJ Nick Nice.
