POLL: Who Has Your Vote in the GOP Primary for U.S. Senate?

Previous polls suggest former governor Tommy Thompson is in the lead, but the key Tea Party endorsement went to Mark Neumann and businessman Eric Hovde is liked by Patch's GOP insiders.

In 1988, the Bradley Center opened, a sparkling new venue for the basketball team owned by Herb Kohl, who celebrated that year by taking office as a U.S. Senator.

The arena and Kohl’s service followed parallel paths; both are up for replacement. The Democrat announced that he would not seek a fifth term, sparking a furious effort by member of the GOP to earn the nomination in a general election.

will select that nominee from among Tommy Thompson, Mark Neumann, Eric Hovde and Jeff Fitzgerald. And unlike many primaries, it’s tough to say today who will come out on top.

Thompson, the former governor, topped the but plenty of voters continued to call themselves undecided. Our own showed they preferred Hovde as a senator but Thompson as the best candidate to defeat Democrat Tammy Baldwin in the general election. The ultra-conservative Tea Party endorsed Neumann. Fitzgerald has consistently lagged behind the other three but . Following the latest poll, Patch commenter James R Hoffa noted:

Looks like all the mud slinging being done by the top 3 is starting to turn people on to the [quiet] underdog in this race - Fitzgerald. He more than doubled his support since last month - the largest increase realized by any of the candidates for the nomination.

So who has your vote? Tell us in the poll then join the conversation sure to follow in the Comments section.

Mark Neumann, although a proven conservative, is a serial campaigner. Not only is he a repeated loser in various political races but he also does it negatively. His campaign for this Senate seat has been a stark reminder of what we in Wisconsin have been going through for the past 2 years. We are tired of it! We are tired of career politicians! Ron Johnson paved the path for an outsider like Eric Hovde to enter the race and capture the attention of Wisconsin voters with a common sense, spirited and fact based campaign. His message resonates with me. Eric for Senate!

None?
Lets see you have Tommy, who should have retired a long time ago. You have Hovde who should stop sucking up to every key polling item of what a republican politician should be. Fitzgerald who? Mark Neumann maybe should just keep his reputation as a nice guy and stay out of the GOP races to control the country? Whats up with this guys running for republican seats? Seems like they will say and do anything to get in? Oh, I am huge Conservative, My first day I will kill obama care, I will kiss your baby and give you big tax breaks. maybe just vote for the dem and not worry that they are going to go power hungry and give away all our money to the rich and powerful?

JL - just so we're clear - I think you mistake "giving away all our money" with letting people keep their own money. There is a pretty significant difference that should not be overlooked. And I'm pretty sure that Baldwin doesn't recognize that difference.
Greg August 10, 2012 at 08:41 pm
It really does not matter what JL thinks, JL is voting for Baldwin (if JL votes).
James R Hoffa August 10, 2012 at 09:06 pm
Hoffa is backing Hovde, giving him a chance to prove that he'll deliver on his message if he has the opportunity to put on the pants of a public representative.

Tammy Baldwin. She is the only choice.
skinnyDUDE August 11, 2012 at 04:01 pm
Tammy Baldwin is the same as rejected Kathleen falk. A Madison liberal the rest of the state will reject. 1- no one knows who she is . 2- When they find out who she is they will vote for the Republican nominee . She wins Madison and Milwaukee And will be rejected everywhere else! Where have i seen this before (hint :Walker )

@opera singer -
Tammy Baldwin in not running for the GOP nomination in the primary. She's running as an uncontested Democrat in the general election.
James R Hoffa August 11, 2012 at 05:20 pm
@skinny -
The general election results will mirror those of the recent gubernatorial recall election - the GOP nominee will garner a winning 54% to Baldwin's 46%.

Fitz is a great candidate and he still has a chance.
Really, they're all fantastic choices, making it a very tough decision, but the decision in November will be an easy one - ABB - anybody but Barack and anybody but Baldwin!

I dislike so much sarcasm in one post. Why not just come out and say something directly?

Steve, I have friends and co-workers whose political leanings vary from far right to far left andRead More everything in between. I certainly wouldn't make decisions "on their future" simply based on whether or not they signed a petition. I value the input I receive from my exposure to their varying viewpoints. It seems awfully petty and shortsighted to base so many decisions on one factor. When I hire an employee, political opinions are not important to me - credentials, experience, work ethic, that's what I look for; I am interested in hiring a competent person, not someone who simply shares my political leanings. You frequently tout yourself as a "producer" - of what, I don't know. Since you so strongly support the idea of making decisions on the litmus test of whether or not someone supports or opposes Governor Walker, I suggest that you let everyone know the name of your company and what you produce. That way, people who share your ideals can support your business and those that don't can make an educated decision as to whether or not they want to work with you.

One battle lost is not the end of the war. Walker has proven to be the biggest loser that this stateRead More has ever seen. We are almost last in every catagory and if your married with daughters all your thier rights have been taken away by your God. Remember when you and Walker take your place in hell the dead will some day walk the earth again.
