Late-Arriving Absentee Ballots in Tosa Split Fairly Evenly

The four major candidates each picked up a few votes once all the late-arriving absentees were counted by the Wauwatosa City Clerk.

Wauwatosa's canvassing board finished counting late-arriving absentee ballots Monday for the , as allowed under state law, and each candidate (except independent Hari Trivedi) received a few additional votes.

The Wauwatosa victors didn't change.

Indeed, the absentee ballot results were pretty evenly split.

The Municipal Board of Canvassers convened at 8:30 a.m. to consider the late-arriving absentee ballots. City Clerk Carla A. Ledesma reported the following additional results:

  • Gov. Scott Walker received an additional 10 votes.
  • Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett received an additional 12 votes.
  • Mahlon Mitchell received an additional 13 votes for lieutenant governor.
  • Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch received an additional 8 votes.

"Two absentee ballots were rejected unopened because the carrier envelopes lacked voter signatures and witness signatures," Ledesma wrote in an email to Patch.

One provisional ballot was counted (included in totals above), she said.

In the unofficial results, Patch reported previously, Walker defeated Barrett, the Milwaukee mayor, by 2,028 votes in Wauwatosa.

Walker received 14,049 votes, 53.6 percent, of all 26,195 cast in the governor's race. Barrett got 12,021, or 45.9 percent. Trivedi received 107 votes and there were 18 write-ins.

In the unofficial returns, Kleefisch had received 13,720 votes, 53.25 percent, to challenger Mitchell's 12,005, or 46.6 percent. There were 44 write-ins in that race.
