April 2012 Election: Roundup of Races, Referendum on the Wauwatosa Ballot

City voters to decide new mayor, candidates in seven contested city and county races and presidential nominees.

Citywide, voters will decide Tuesday the next mayor and whether the Common Council over which the mayor presides should be downsized.

Three aldermanic seats are contested and will be decided by voters in districts one, three and five. Voters in Milwaukee County’s 6th and 15th supervisory districts also will help decide which of the candidates vying for seats on the County Board will prevail.

Although there are 11 judicial races on the ballot, only two are contested. And, of course, there is the presidential preference vote – with Republican voters to choose one of six candidates seeking nomination to run against President Barack Obama.

Wauwatosa has 14 polling stations for 24 wards and eight aldermanic districts, with one new polling place effective with Tuesday’s spring election. Voters in Ward 1 who in the past voted at Wauwatosa East High School now will cast ballots Fire Station No. 1, at 1601 Underwood Ave.

Voters will not be required to show a photo ID due to that block implementation of that element of the state’s new voter ID law. Voters still will need to sign a poll list, however, which was not affected by the injunctions, said City Clerk Carla Ledesma.

A sample ballot is available on the city’s web site. Voters uncertain about where to vote can go to the Government Accountability Board’s voter public access web site to find the correct polling place or contact the City Clerk’s office at (414) 479-8921.
