Unexpected Costs Have Eroded Tosa Library Book-buying Budget

Though it doesn't address long-term budgetary issues, the Wauwatosa Public Library has received a $40,000 infusion from the city to address unexpected expenses and purchase materials.

A server crash affecting the library's camera system, at a cost of $7,500 to resolve, and an $8,000 charge from the county system for e-book services have drained the book-buying budget.

Required payments to the Milwaukee County Federated Library System have consistently increased, while revenues remain flat. The library spends about half of what neighboring libraries like Brookfield do, according to NOW.
