Fast Breaks: Boys Basketball Practice Begins Today at East and West

West has a new coach and East prepares to move forward without one of its top returning stars.

High school boys basketball teams can begin practice today, and East and West both have some unsettled business heading into the season.

West opens its season Nov. 25 against Racine Park in the Fort Healthcare Shootout in Fort Atkinson.

East was 15-8 a year ago, including 11-3 in the Greater Metro Conference, just a game behind league champion Marquette. While the Red Raiders have a healthy collection of seniors, it appears Darrell Bowie will not be among them. The 6-foot-6 senior forward is listed on the roster at LaJolla (CA) Prep this season.

Bowie had 24 points and 17 rebounds as East best West last year, 69-56, according to WisSports.net. This year's intracity rivarly game is Jan. 7 at East. But the Red Raiders get the season started Dec. 2 with a home conference game against West Allis Central.

Both Tosa teams are in the same Division 2 regional for the WIAA tournament. The regional also features Milwaukee Washington, Milwaukee Juneau, Nicolet and defending state champion Whitefish Bay.
