Nine West High Players Honored as All-Conference Selections

Banquet gathering recognizes contributions and leadership of seniors and the high hopes inspired by successful juniors and sophomores ready to take over next season.

 

The 2012 Wauwatosa West Trojan football team was honored with nine player-selections for First Team All-Conference and nine additional selections for Honorable Mention All-Conference.

All-Conference selections were made by Woodland Conference coaches. The Tosa West honoree total (18) ranks them second in team-wide recognition in the Conference. Greendale had 19 recognized and conference champ Pewaukee had 16.

Conference recognition was announced Nov. 12 by Head Coach Matt Good at the post-season Trojan Football Banquet.

Two Trojan backs received major hardware for outstanding seasons. Senior Mickey Morgan and junior Jameson Brock were selected for First Team honors on both offense and defense. Morgan was also named to the Woodland All-Conference Academic Team.

From the Tosa West Trojan offense, joining running backs Morgan and Brock on First Team All-Conference were wide receiver Develyn Ferguson, and linemen Ron Brown and Adam Polivka.

From the Tosa West defense, joining First Team All-Conference secondary backs Morgan and Brock were lineman Khaled Salem and linebacker Jon Doolen.

Trojans on offense who earned All-Conference Honorable Mention were linemen Craig Egle and Dakota Kolatski, running back Greg Lewis and quarterback Jared Morzinski.

On defense, Trojans who earned All-Conference Honorable Mention were linemen Shawn Connors and Sam Clough, linebackers Niko Lewis and Greg Lewis and punter Mickey Morgan.

Five of the honored Trojans are juniors: Jameson Brock, Develyn Ferguson, Greg Lewis, Jared Morzinski and Niko Lewis. All of the other Tosa West All-Conference awardees were seniors.  

Coach Good praised the senior class as exceptional football players and role models. He held up the seniors as examples of “where hard work and dedication” will take you. “They put in the work, they stuck together in the off-season. For you underclassmen – this is how you succeed.”   

The banquet hall was packed by parents, family, friends and players. The celebration honored a great season that saw the Trojans Varsity finish 7-2 with entry into the WIAA playoffs. The Tosa West Varsity Reserve finished with an outstanding 7-1 record, with notable wins against Greendale and Pewaukee. The Trojan freshmen finished with a  3-5 record.

Banquet highlights included a large array of Tosa West video highlights of their year. Players and attendees cheered for big plays by the honored players. Several seniors spoke about the dedication of the coaching staff, the support of coaches’ spouses, and thanks for great support by families and volunteers.

Finally, this end-of-season banquet featured a notable buzz and excitement for the future of the Tosa West football program.
