UPDATE: New Hires Include Tosa West Band Director

School Board approves contract for 23-year veteran Guy Kammerer; new principals also brought on.

The School Board on Monday approved hiring a new band director for .

Guy Kammerer, who has taught for 23 years at Marion, Whitnall and Waukesha South high schools, will assume the post.

Kammerer is a graduate of Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. He replaces former band director Richard Smith at West.

He also plays trumpet for the All-Star SUPERband, a 16-piece jazz big band that performs every Thursday night at O'Donoghue's Irish Pub in Elm Grove.

With his long experience, all of it at the high school level, Kammerer will start at a salary of $71,807.

Principal positions

The board approved two administrative contracts. Stephanie Jajtner will take over as principal of effective July 1 at a salary of $95,000. JajtnerΒ  replaces Tom Seidl, who is moving this year to the .

Matthew Byers becomes an associate principal at Wauwatosa West High School, also effective July 1 at a salary of $76,000.

The district did not provide background information for Jajtner and Byers.

Teachers and a counselor, too

The School Board tonight also approved the following new hires:

  • Christopher R. Sellers as a fourth- and fifth-grade teacher at Wilson/STEM school at a beginning salary of $36,500. He replaces Nicole Schmidt Nowicki. Sellers graduated from the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse and has four years' experience teaching in Milwaukee Public Schools at Honey Creek and Goodrich elementary schools.
  • Kristi Kaye Zielinski Koshuta as a new math teacher at a salary of $50,103, replacing Ashley Smith. Koshuta attended UW-Oshkosh and UW-Eau Claire, and has 11 years experience at Kiel and Menasha high schools.
  • Sara Elizabeth Weiler as a counselor at starting at $62,807, replacing Kathy Beechtree. Weiler attended UW-Milwaukee and University of Dayton. She has 13 years' experience in the Merton School District.

The School Board, which met at 7 p.m. in the Fisher Building at 12121 W. North Ave., also approved the district's for the 2011-12 school year.
