'Tosa Grads Exceed State and National ACT Averages

Members of the Class of 2013 at both Wauwatosa East and West bested the state and national average scores on the ACT.

Students at both Wauwatosa East and West who took the ACT this year scored higher than both the state and the national average.

At 'Tosa East, students come in with a composite score of 23.9, down from an average of 24 in 2012.

Overall, Wisconsin tied Iowa to take the number two spot in the nation, according to a press release from State Superintendent Tony Evers.

The state average is 22.1, which is higher than the national average of 20.9.

About 71 percent of Wisconsin's 2013 graduates took the ACT. Out of the 287 seniors at East, 198 - or 69 percent - of them participated in the ACT.

The story at 'Tosa West is a similar; the class of 2013 scored an average of 23, up from 22.9 in 2012.

West seniors participated in the ACT at a higher rate than their peers across town. Out of 276 seniors, 203 took the test, an average of 73.6 percent.

Participation in ACT testing overall is expected to increase when Wisconsin adopts the ACT as part of its statewide assessment.
