Tosa West’s Speed, Stealth Dismantle New Berlin Eisenhower, 42-0

It’s no longer a surprise that the Wauwatosa West Trojan ball carriers can fly.

Jameson Brock, Mickey Morgan, Greg Lewis and Demaris Purifoy have made big plays all season. They love the seams and spaces regularly given by their gifted linemen.

On defense and special teams the formula has been to rely on speed to contain the edges and protect against big plays.

Against New Berlin Eisenhower the Trojan’s speed was joined by stealth. Tosa West defenders recovered two Lion fumbles, had three interceptions and made several stops in the Eisenhower backfield in a dominant 42-0 win. This victory moved the Tosa West record to 5-1, and Eisenhower is now 2-4.

On offense, the Trojans started with two first downs on the ground. Then quarterback Jared Morzinski connected on a 38-yard strike to Develyn Ferguson, who caught the ball in stride for the game’s first score.

After Jameson Brock’s first interception of the night – he had all three Trojan picks – the offense used a nice pass-run mix to get it close, and Lewis carried it in from a yard out, ending the first quarter 14-0.

In the second quarter, the Lions' defense tried to shake things up with blitzes. One caused an off-balance throw by Morzinski that was picked off. But on the next play the Lions fumbled the ball back to the Trojans. Mickey Morgan then broke off a 35-yard run to the 10-yard line, and Jameson Brock ran it in from there for the score.

Brock’s highlight-reel continued to roll. In the middle of the second quarter, Jameson made a nice shoe-string interception. After West gave up the ball on downs, Brock had his third pick of the half with 1:55 left – and this one he took to the house, for a 28-0 Tosa West half-time lead.   

The Trojan defense had super plays by several seniors. Sam Clough, Elijah Banyard-Johnson and Andre Santiago were stellar. Joining them with important stops were juniors Niko Lewis, Eric Chapman and Greg Lewis.

In the second half, the Trojan offense was run-dominated. On their first scoring sequence, Greg Lewis did much of the heavy lifting and then Brock ran it in from two yards out.

Later in the quarter, sophomore Demaris Purifoy finished the touchdown run parade with an exciting 59-yarder that started with excellent interior blocking.

This was Tosa West’s first defensive shutout of the season, and a nice comeback from the last two weeks when they surrendered six touchdowns against Pius and five against Pewaukee. This win adds insurance to the Trojan’s post-season playoff plans – but where and who they play relies on their regular-season record. 

Tosa West has two regular-season games remaining. Next up is the Trojans final “away” game against always-tough Greendale High School, currently with a record of 4-2. Game time in Greendale is 7 p.m. Friday.
