Tosa Baseball Players Get into Spring of Things

Youth league coaches expect indoor practice facility to give a leg up when season begins.

Spring training is no longer just a dream for youth baseball players in Wauwatosa.

Thanks to a new indoor facility, players can spend the winter months improving their skills. The Tosa Baseball League opened the facility in December, located at 3725 N. 126th Street.

The 3,500 square-foot facility provides players with the opportunity to work on their fielding and their hitting. Players can either hit from a pitching machine or can take live throws from a pitcher throwing on an indoor mound.

According to Dave Belknapp, executive director of the Tosa Baseball League, the facility will help improve the competitive nature of the various leagues and help them when they compete in tournaments this summer. The Tosa Baseball League consists of 50 teams with 750 youngsters between the ages of 7 through 15. The League was created in 1971.

“One of the goals was to improve baseball in Wauwatosa,” Belknapp said. Our season is so short here. The indoor facility has been invaluable for our organization.

Belknapp said the proof of the facility’s importance will be apparent when play begins this spring.

“Having been there every day since December, I’ve seen how much the kids have improved,” Belknapp said. “They’re really taking advantage of the facility”

Belknapp said Wauwatosa East, Wauwatosa West and the Junior Trojan program have utilized the facility.  The interest has been so great this past winter that the facility will now be open throughout the year, Belknapp said. The Wauwatosa Baseball League will begin its season in May.
