Tosa Pool Gets a Little Tuck Before Its Facelift

Tosa Pool is getting a little pull this week, just little upper tuck to take some wrinkles out of its forehead.

Next, it's on to the nose job.

Masons went work tuck pointing the chimney of Depression-era bath house before contractors move on soon to building The Landing, Tosa Pool's new beer garden.

"We needed some work on that old chimney," said communications director Mary Pluta, "and we decided that, since we'll have trucks in here anyway, we might as well get it done first."

The beer garden will be positioned in front of a projecting part of the bath house called "the nose."

Pluta said Friends of Hoyt Park and Pool got its state and city building approvals for the beer garden Wednesday and is nearing completion of an agreement with Milwaukee County.

The group is still looking at a July opening, Pluta said.

Genuine German-made beer hall tables have arrived, Pluta said

FOHPP will manage its own beer, wine and food sales, so it doesn't need to worry about separate concessions contracts.

It does have to decide what labels to sell -- and that means a little sanctioned drinking on the job.

"We've got a wine distributor coming shortly," Pluta said just shy of noon Thursday, "and I need to sample it.

"Some job, huh?"
