Tosa's Beer Garden Opens Sunday Afternoon

Beginning at 3 p.m., you can raise a stein (or enjoy a glass of wine) at The Landing at Hoyt Park (and pay by credit card) – then look forward to Wednesday, when you can raise another.

The Friends of Hoyt Park & Pool announced Friday morning that the opening of its new beer garden, The Landing at Hoyt Park, will be at 3 p.m. Sunday.

The Landing will be open until 9 p.m. Sunday, in line with its planned weekly hour: 3 to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday, throughout the month of October.

The first couple of weeks will serve as a final dress rehearsal for staff and to ensure that everything is working before a grand opening celebration later this summer, the Friends' director said.

“Some of our custom glassware hasn’t arrived, we’re waiting on our shade sails, and we’ll be adding additional menu items throughout the month of August,” said Kit Slawski, executive director.

The design of The Landing features European picnic tables with seating for 280 people; shade sails and umbrellas, low-level party lighting and ADA-approved permeable gravel. The Landing will offer walk-up beverage service in the Bathhouse’s newly restored north entrance, with its maple woodwork and refinished WPA-era brass hardware.

“We’re looking forward to seeing friends and neighbors at the beer garden," Slawski said. "Stop by this weekend for German Hacker Pschorr Heffe Weisse and American beer from Big Bay Brewing, Milwaukee Brewing Co., Point Brewery, Lakefront Brewery and more."

"You can bring your own stein and we will fill it with your beer of choice,” Slawski said.

One thing those who have visited Estabrook Park Biergarten will be pleased to know: Unlike Estabrook's cash-only policy, The Landing will also take Mastercard and Visa.

Beer is served in glassware, so if you don't bring your own, you will have to put down a $5 refundable deposit on a Landing-provided stein.

Guests can also purchase wine, soda, hot dogs, brats, popcorn and pretzels this weekend or bring in their own picnic. Guests are not allowed to bring in their own alcoholic beverages.

Since the Friends of Hoyt Park & Pool is a non-profit organization and does not receive taxpayer dollars to operate Tosa Pool, The Landing will serve as a revenue stream to support the pool while maintaining a safe and beautiful park experience for families to enjoy, Slawski said.

The Friends of Hoyt Park & Pool raised approximately $8 million to build the new pool. The organization has a 55-year lease with Milwaukee County to operate it.

You can stay tuned to the Friends' website and Facebook page throughout the summer for more information on our menu and music selections.
