Children's Hospital Patients, Families to Get Their Own Fair

Thanks to a donation from Kohl’s Cares, Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin patients and their families will enjoy a special “Fair Day” of their own at the hospital during this year’s Wisconsin State Fair.

To entertain those who can't make a trip to the fairgrounds, State Fair representatives will come to Wauwatosa, bringing Richelle Kastenson, Wisconsin Fairest of the Fairs, and three popular Fair entertainers.

And young patients won't even have to miss out on Fair animals.

The fun will be held in the main lobby of the hospital from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Aug. 9.

The acts include Project Dynamite, a musical/novelty act; Sean Emory, a juggling comedian; and T. Texas Terry, a comedic cowboy.

Richelle will also be handing out “I’m a Blue Ribbon Kid” rosette ribbons to all the patients at Children’s Hospital.

In addition, staff will create a Pig Race area, using a Pinewood Derby car track, with cars that look like pigs.

Given that actual Fair animals are not allowed at the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, the hospital’s approved therapy dogs will be dressed up as cows, pigs, chickens, sheep, and horses to replicate the agricultural fair experience.

A variety of Fair games, including milk bottle ring toss and bean bag toss, will also be available for the children to play.

Cream puffs – of course – and samples of flavored milk from the Herb Kohl’s Milk House will be served as treats for children and family members. Children’s Hospital will also work with the patients’ dietary programs to provide such popular Fair items as corn dogs, lemonade, popcorn and small Dairy Queen blizzards.
