Honey Creek flows from the south through West Allis to meet the Menomonee River in the middle of Wauwatosa. For a couple of miles along its course from State Fair Park north it is one of Milwaukee County's premier natural areas, traced by a winding road and vistas of Wauwatosa's natural wonders. Honey Creek is prone to flooding, and that is one of the principle reasons for the existence of the parkway: It is a floodway as well as a recreational corridor.
