Who's Going to State in Girls Track?

Find out who will represent West and East high school at the WIAA state meet next weekend in La Crosse.

Four individuals and two relay teams from Wauwatosa West are headed to the WIAA state girls track and field meet following performances Thursday at the Waukesha North Sectional. See complete sectional results The Trojans had no champions but picked up three second-place finishes and three thirds to come in second in the team competition. Wauwatosa East will second two athletes to the state meet. State qualifiers were: WAUWATOSA WEST WAUWATOSA EAST Other individuals may also qualify based on time and the entire field will be released before the state meet, May 31-June 1 in La Crosse.

Wauwatosa Students Graduate from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee

Mock Crash, Movie at East High Drive Home Dangers of OWI

An eleborate mock crash scene set up Thursday morning at Wauwatosa East High School was only the beginning of an intensive two-day course of events designed to drive home the danger of mixing alcohol and automobiles. For some students, Thursday's mockup didn't quite live up to its billing in shock value: It was a little too staged, they thought. They were kept at a distance while firefighters and police officers swarmed around two smashed-up cars that supposedly contained friends of theirs – but they were barely visible. And then, too, the scene was crawling with camera operators intruding on every scene, poking lenses between paramedics and victims, police and perpetrators. Rios Chosen For Wauwatosa School Board Vacancy

Carmela Rios, who previously challenged incumbent Phil Kroner in April, has been chosen to replace resigning board member Lois Weber.

Carmela Rios will join the Wauwatosa School Board after she was chosen to fill a vacancy left by 37-year board member Lois Weber, reported Wauwatosa Now. Rios challenged and lost to incumbent Phil Kroner for his seat in the April election.  Other candidates included Kristy Casey, Tyra Hildebrand, Michael Huitink, and Gay Leigh Calquhoun-Mundy, reported Wauwatosa Now. Rios has been a science teacher at Saint Joan Antida High School and the Greendale School District.  The 10-year Wauwatosa resident has a B.S. in Biology from University of Wisconsin Stevens Point, a M.S. in Natural Science from Michigan State University and is working on a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology at Marquette University. If I undestood the story, Carmela Rios is a successful educator still educating herself, who was first endorsed by a sizable fraction of Tosa's voting population, then was voted by a majority of the School Board. West Comes Out Best After Rally Against East

Wauwatosa West had lost 11 in a row but didn't quit when it fell behind its city rival, and came back for a one-run softball victory.

Megan O’Rourke’s two-run double was the big hit as Wauwatosa West rallied from a 4-1 deficit to defeat crosstown rival Wauwatosa East 5-4 in softball on Wednesday. The Trojans (3-11) had lost 11 in a row and looked to be in deep trouble again in the sixth. East foiled a squeeze bunt with runners at second and third, throwing the runner out at home for the second out. But O’Rourke pulled one just inside the third base line to make the score 4-3. Moments later, a bases-loaded walk sent home the tying run. Dani Savignac scored the winning run in the seventh from second base. She took third on a wild pitch and came home when the throw from the catcher sailed into left field. Ashley Lindstrom was the winning pitcher, tossing all seven innings. …

Two Students Talked of Planting Bombs at East, Reports Say

Boys admitted to police wide discussions of bomb plots before they were overheard and reported, news reports says.

Two Wauwatosa East High students discussed a variety of plans to plant bombs in the school before being overheard and reported, according to a story on Today's TMJ4 based on police reports released Friday. Wauwatosa Patch reported on April 29, a Monday, when parents were first notified by the School District, that a bomb scare had been uncovered late the previous Friday and that police were investigating more than one student's involvement. At the time, the School District announced, "Last Friday, after the conclusion of the school day, the District was made aware of a rumored bomb threat against East High School." The now-released police reports detail in more than 50 pages the two boys' admissions of discussing four different bombing …
