Beautiful Football, Righteous Chocolate Attracts Tosa Native to Sweden

Andrew Stadler was a standout soccer player for Wauwatosa West, and then for George Washington University. Patch catches up with him in Sweden as he prepares for another pro season.

Wauwatosa West graduate Andy Stadler is preparing to begin his fourth season of professional soccer thousands of miles away from his hometown. The 25-year-old is an attacking midfielder for Sandvikens IF, a third-division team in Sandviken, a small town in south-central Sweden. He arrived there after starring for the Trojans and then for George Washington University. Stadler led George Washington in scoring as a sophomore, junior and senior, and was first-team All-Mid-Atlantic Region as a junior and senior. He had dreams of getting a shot at Major League Soccer but said a couple of hamstring injuries made that difficult. He returned to George Washington to wrap up his degree and said he wasn’t sure if he’d ever play again. “I talked to a …

How Many Games Will the Milwaukee Brewers Win This Year?

Opening Day for the Milwaukee Brewers is Monday, and fans are hoping they can return to the top of the National League Central Division — or at least beat the Chicago Cubs.

Milwaukee Brewers Opening Day is Monday, April 1 against the Colorado Rockies. The team was 83-79 last year, third in the NL Central Division. Fans’ expectations were recently raised after signing of free agent pitcher Kyle Lohse, a former St. Louis Cardinal who was 16-3 last year with a 2.86 ERA. Also key for Milwaukee’s hopes are the fortunes of Ryan Braun. The left fielder authored another incredible offensive season in 2012 (.319 batting average, 41 HR, 112 RBI, 30 SB) but is followed by a cloud of suspicion over the possible use of performance-enhancing drugs. USA Today reported that Braun is a top target of an investigation; Major League Baseball denied that report to Sports Illustrated.   How do you think the Brewers will do this …

When Does the NCAA Basketball Tournament Begin?

Dubbed as March Madness, the NCAA college men's basketball tournament celebrates its 75th birthday this year; however for the first time in many years, you won't be foisting a green beer to celebrate.

The 75th annual NCAA "March Madness" men's basketball tournament is wagered on every year, often by people who have never watched college basketball. However, this year's festivities on the court and in countless (and unofficial) office bracket pools will have to wait just a little longer than in most years. Just how much longer? Normally the start of the tournament has coincided with the annual St. Patrick's Day revelry, but this year bracketologists will have an extra week to pour over stats and sportstalk. So the dance will begin on March 19 and 20, with the "first four" games to precede the official kickoff to the tournament. The expanded tournament features 68 teams, and these initial games will include the four lowest seeds in the …
