Should Act 10 Be Repealed? Assembly Candidates Divided

Candidates seeking election to state offices representing parts of Brookfield, Wauwatosa and Elm Grove sparred on issues, including the state's collective bargaining reforms, at candidates forum Tuesday.

The state's sweeping collective bargaining reforms — still being litigated in court — drew widely divergent views from area candidates seeking election to the state Assembly. Asked whether, if elected, they would try to repeal Act 10 which eliminated most public sector union negotiations, reactions fell along partisan lines at a candidates forum held Tuesday in Brookfield. "I actually voted for Act 10 and I stand by that vote," said Republican state Rep. Dale Kooyenga, of Brookfield, who is seeking a second term representing the newly redrawn 14th Assembly District, which includes Brookfield and Wauwatosa. "We made common sense reforms, said Kooyenga, who added school districts and local governments have and will continue to benefit …

Act 10 is now law (and will remain so despite futile stays by Dane County judges). The candidates who would repeal Act 10 need to clearly state what they would put in to replace it -- and how those changes would impact taxpayers at all levels. The time to be against Act 10 is over. It is time for candidates to be for something, rather than against something. As an aside, this article is also …   more ›

Primary Election Preview: Wisconsin State Assembly, 13th District

Robert Hutton, Thomas Schellinger and Nathaniel Ristow square off in Republican race for legislative seat, while Democrat John Pokrandt is unopposed.

Three Republicans are vying for a chance to advance to the Nov. 6 general election in the 13th District State Assembly race in Tuesday's primary election. Robert Hutton, Nathaniel Ristow and Thomas Schellinger are competing for the GOP nomination in the district, which includes southern portions of Brookfield and Wauwatosa, and all of Elm Grove (see map attached to story). The winner will likely take on Democrat John Pokrandt, who is unopposed in the Democratic primary. The three Republican candidates all have government reform and private sector growth as top priorities, but they have different ideas about how to accomplish those. Hutton, a businessman and former Waukesha County Board supervisor, emphasized tax reform as a way to restrain…

Letter to Editor: Vote Hutton for Fiscal Sense, Family, Freedom

Republican Waukesha resident endorses Rob Hutton for 13th state Assembly district, saying he "will always support legislation that values life, family, freedom and fiscal responsibility."

Letter to the Editor: While we Wisconsinites have seen more than our share of elections over the past two years, the upcoming Republican Primary election on August 14th is extremely important. In the Brookfield area, which is part of the 13th Assembly District, Rob Hutton is the conservative Republican candidate who has the private sector experience, as a business owner, of actually creating jobs as well as serving the public as a Waukesha County Supervisor. His private sector experience has taught him that government cannot continue to tax job creators and impose unreasonable regulatory burdens driving up costs and forcing workers out of jobs.   Rob Hutton is a leader who understands fiscal responsibility and will represent the district …

I have no doubt Mr. Hutton is a man with strong traditional values, but his record as an elected representative is suspect. He only attended 64% of the Waukesha County Board meetings last year when he lived in and represented Sussex. He also arrived late and/or left meetings early more than almost all other supervisors. I'll be taking a look at the other candidates in this primary. Maybe one of …   more ›

Letter to Editor: Hutton Deserves Vote for 13th Assembly Seat

Brookfield couple says Rob Hutton is the best choice in the Aug. 14 primary election for the 13th Assembly District. Hutton's private business experience, values and fiscal philosophy are key, they say.

Letter to the Editor: My husband and I have met on several occasions with the candidate for the 13th Assembly District of the State of Wisconsin, Rob Hutton. I strongly believe Rob has the qualifications which are needed by the citizens of the State of Wisconsin at this crucial time in our lives and for future generations.  Rob offers solid experience as a private sector business owner which is a quality, I believe, is needed in Madison. His values are in accord with the many things that are dear to me. Top three on the list is smaller government that includes a fiscally responsible budget,  having a stronger Wisconsin by eliminating unnecessary regulations that stifles job growth and using the Constitution as a guideline when considering …

Mr. Hutton business experience may be a plus, but his record as an elected representative is suspect. He only attended 64% of the Waukesha County Board meetings last year when he lived in and represented Sussex. He also arrived late and/or left meetings early more than almost all other supervisors. I think the citizens of Wauwatosa, Elm Grove, Brookfield, and West Allis deserves more than 2/3 …   more ›
