A Milwaukee man who drove to a Wauwatosa drug store during the morning rush hour for more liquor after downing nearly half a gallon of vodka overnight was arrested for drunken driving and sent to the hospital on an emergency medical detention order. At 8:16 a.m. Tuesday, an employee of the Walgreen’s store at 2656 Wauwatosa Avenue called Wauwatosa police to report an intoxicated driver, and he provided a license number. He said that the man seemed "troubled" in the store. He followed the man outside and told police that that he seemed to be having problems operating his vehicle's controls. A young man troubled by alcoholism stole two bottles of mouthwash Friday from a Wauwatosa supermarket and quickly downed one of them to take the edge off his uncontrollable urge to drink. At 3:25 p.m., police arrested a 23-year-old South Milwaukee man for retail theft after he ran away from Metcalfe’s Sentry Foods, 6700 W. State St., with two half-liter bottles of Listerine mouthwash. A store security officer said he had seen the man taking the mouthwash and tried to stop him as he left the store, but he ran. He had crossed West State Street and the railroad tracks into Hart Park, the employee said, and then just sat down on the ground.
