A Milwaukee man was arrested Wednesday for retail theft for his 20th time and will once again face state charges instead of the usual municipal citation given to run-of-the-mill shoplifters. According to police reports: At 1:26 a.m. Wednesday, a 40-year-old Milwaukee man was chased down and arrested for theft after he left Walgreen’s, 2275 N. Mayfair Rd., without paying for $84.28 worth of merchandise, including laundry detergent, a water filter and sundry health and beauty products. As it happened, a patrol officer was so close by he saw the suspect’s car leaving the parking lot and a Walgreen's employee standing in front of the store waving wildly. He pulled in, quickly caught the story and just as quickly caught up with the car and …

Several key witnesses in the beating of a Wauwatosa boy on the playground of Lincoln Elementary School earlier this summer substantially support the victim's account, according to police reports. Meanwhile, the two Milwaukee brothers accused of battery in the incident refused to give police any statements on their version of events. According to the 15-year-old victim, a Wauwatosa West High School sophomore, an encounter at Hart Park in late June led to the ambush-stlye beating weeks later at Lincoln. He told police he had seen a boy hitting a girl and had stepped between them to protect her but had not fought with the boy. Police located and interviewed the 16-year-old Wauwatosa girl who was involved, and she told officers that the two …

The three were stopped and searched, and two of them had GPS units that were traced to residents in the area whose cars had been rifled overnight. The three suspects had a variety of other items, including phones, an iPod, chargers and loose change that had been stolen. The three admitted in to police that they …

Two Milwaukee brothers, ages 13 and 14, have been arrested for beating up a Wauwatosa teenager on the playground at Lincoln Elementary School, police said. According to Wauwatosa Police Lt. Gerald Witkowski, the boys turned themselves in at the police station Wednesday and were interviewed, arrested, booked and released until a date for an appearance in Children's Court is set. Witkowski said that reports on the boys' statements to police about the incident are not yet complete, but he expected that a report would be forwarded to Children's Court on Friday. The brothers first arrived at the Wauwatosa Police Department on Tuesday night with the intention of turning themselves in then, Witkowski said, but because the police were at the time …

A police report filed Saturday lists two Milwaukee boys as having been arrested in the beating of a Wauwatosa boy, but police now say that the two are not yet in custody — although they should be soon. Based on the police report, Wauwatosa Patch reported Monday that 13- and 14-year-old brothers had been arrested for aggravated battery in the severe beating of a 15-year-old Wauwatosa boy that was recorded and posted as a video on a hip-hop website. A Wauwatosa police detective found the video and recognized the two assailants as students in the Tosa schools. School officials confirmed their identities and also recognized the victim of the beating as a West High School sophomore. Public affairs officer Lt. Gerald Witkowski said today that it…

A 44-year-old East Troy man who is a registered sex offender was arrested early Monday for battery and criminal trespassing after he forced his way into a home in the 1000 block of North 115th Street and struck and injured a 24-year-old Wauwatosa woman. According to the police report: The man was giving her a ride home Sunday evening when they began arguing and he put her out of the car several miles from home. She called for a ride home with a friend, but in the meantime the suspect arrived at her home and demanded money for gas from her parents, who called police. Twice he disappeared before police arrived, and they called a third time after he showed up again at 11:50 p.m. By this time, the daughter was home, and he broke open the front…

It's not unusual to hear someone say that crime is getting out of hand here in Wauwatosa and it's just no longer a safe place. But it's also not unusual to hear someone else respond that crime isn't all that bad — Tosa is actually a pretty safe community and not getting worse. According to the pure statistics, the latter is much closer to the truth, as far as overall crime trends go, including the total number of serious crimes in a year: Criminal activity has been generally in decline in Tosa for the past 10 years, with a couple of spikes, and there have been very small upticks in both 2009 and 2010. Think that's a bad sign — possibly a signal that things are in fact now getting worse? Wauwatosa Police Capt. Jeff Sutter provided Patch …
