When Vicki Maloney of South Milwaukee lost her 22-year-old daughter, Alyssa, to a car accident, she searched for the strength and courage she needed for Alyssa’s daughter, Abbey. She found comfort in the fact that the donation of Alyssa’s kidneys and pancreas allowed others to live. Seeing this bigger purpose has given Maloney the strength to move forward and the motivation to be a volunteer and advocate for organ donation. Maloney’s 12-year-old granddaughter Abbey says, “I’m so proud of my grandma. In January, blood supplies run low and area blood collection organizations are offering up the chance to win a post-season party with Green Bay fan favorite fullback.
Want to win a party with Green Bay fullback John Kuhn? Then you might want to roll up your sleeve and start donating blood. The BloodCenter of Wisconsin joins blood collection organizations around the country to recognize January as National Blood Donor Month – a time to honor the generosity of donors who take time out of their busy schedules to give the gift of life. BloodCenter is offering an additional incentive to donate this month, with its Run Your Route challenge extended to Jan. 13. The challenge has area donor centers competing for a post-season party with Kuhn. With just a week left in the competition, the Racine and Manitowoc donor centers are tied for the lead. The BloodCenter of Wisconsin is thanking donors in June by handing out free Summerfest tickets in exchange for blood at one of the nine area locations.
The Wauwatosa location of BloodCenter of Wisconsin is offering a free Summerfest admission for a blood donation. The BloodCenter campaign is called “Give Blood, Go Free,” and it’s an effort to boost blood donations during the slow summer months. BloodCenter says between summer vacations and the decrease in school and community drives, it could use the extra donors. “Blood donations through BloodCenter of Wisconsin are a priceless gift that can help save the lives of children and adults who are seriously injured, undergoing surgery or being treated for cancer and other illnesses,” the organization said in a statemet. “As a small ‘thank you’ to those generous donors, BloodCenter is offering a free ticket to Summerfest, which can be used at …
