Man Who Ran Just Adds Charges on Top of Felony Warrant

Wanted for burglary and carrying a pocketful of pot, 23-year-old ran from an officer, but just added obstruction to the list when Tosa patrol officer proved he had more endurance.

A young Milwaukee man who led a Tosa police officer on a long and wearing nighttime footrace – and lost – because he didn't want to be arrested on a burglary warrant now faces additional charges on top of that. Vincent Lee Sims, 23, was charged March 18 in Milwaukee County Circuit Court with obstructing an officer and possession of marijuana. Both are misdemeanors, the obstruction charge carrying a maximum penalty of nine months in jail and the marijuana charge up to six months. At 2:14 a.m. March 16, Sims was walking in the middle of North 60th Street, in the 2500 block, with a 19-year-old Wauwatosa woman. A Wauwatosa patrol officer stopped them for a field interrogation for safety reasons, and after identifying Sims learned that he was …

Burglars Make Themselves at Home in Deceased Man's House

Late East Tosa resident's sister comes to prepare for estate sale only to find that much of her brother's property, including contents of the refrigerator, have already been disposed of by burglars.

A Fond du Lac woman reported Saturday that a home in the 1800 block of North 70th Street that had belonged to her recently deceased brother was burglarized sometime since late February, probably since March 13. The woman said her brother died on Feb. 6 and she had last been inside his home on Feb. 23. She arrived Saturday to begin cleaning and packing up her brother’s belongings for an estate sale, she said, and found the front door open and a variety of property missing. Gone were two TV sets and their Direct TV boxes, a stereo set, a Blue-Ray player, golf clubs, a microwave oven, two frozen pizzas, two six-packs of beer and a sweatshirt, totaling about $3,200 value. All the shades in the home were drawn, the woman said, whereas they had …

Conscience Got Better of Would-Be Burglar, He Says After Arrest

Admitting attempted break-in, teenager says his mother's voice told him to stop. Now, though, he has one more charge to add to the 12 he's already facing.

At 11:16 a.m. Tuesday, two 19-year-old Milwaukee men were arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary after an alert citizen called police to say she suspected they had broken into her neighbor’s home in the 6300 block of West Clarke Street. The two admitted their intentions, according to police reports. But in the end, one of the young men would be charged only with criminal damage to property, and the other, so far, isn't charged at all. Jelani Hasan Spencer of Milwaukee was charged Thursday in Milwaukee County Circuit Court with the misdemeanor, but an assistant district attorney said the details of his case would be read in along with a number of other burglary charges pending against him in Walworth County. According to police reports…

Fugitive Runs 17-Minute Mile Through East Tosa Obstacle Course

Police officer wins nighttime cross-country race on a course through the dense, fenced, snowed-in back yards of Wauwatosa's most tightly packed neighborhood.

A scratched and bleeding Wauwatosa police officer kept up a dogged foot chase after a young fugitive for 17 minutes in the dark, over fences, in and out of snowbanks, through briars and brambles, before the fleeing suspect finally collapsed. At 2:14 a.m. Saturday, the 23-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested on a variety of charges after he fled from the patrol officer, who had stopped him for a field interview. The officer saw him walking with a young woman down the middle of the 2500 block of North 60th Street. The officer immediately recognized the 19-year-old woman from “many prior contacts” but had never seen the man. When he checked his identification, he found the man was wanted on a felony probation violation warrant for burglary. …

5 Semi-Automatic Guns, Including Assault Rifle, Stolen From Tosa Home

Man's home has alarms and video surveillance cameras, but he left it apparently unlocked with more than a dozen unsecured firearms inside.

Five semi-automatic weapons, including an assault rifle, are on the streets after a burglary Monday at a Washington Highlands home that held what a police officer called a "cache" of unsecured firearms and ammunition. According to police reports:  At 11:14 p.m. Monday, police were called to the residence in the 1600 block of Mountain Avenue following a report of a burglary with the theft of an assault rifle and four semi-automatic handguns. The homeowner said he’d gone out a couple of hours earlier to get a bite to eat and come back to find some things disturbed and some of his guns missing. He said he wasn’t sure whether he had locked up the home when he left, and police would find no sign of a forced entry. He said he believed that the …

Owner of Burglarized Home Suspects his Place had been Cased

Victim found evidence of prowling a week in advance of break-in but did not contact police at the time.

At 8:38 p.m. Feb. 4, a resident of the 2100 block of North 69th Street reported that some time since 5 p.m. someone had broken in to his house and stolen more than $4,000 worth of property. The homeowner had returned and entered through a sliding patio door, finding to his surprise that it was unlocked and slightly open. He saw in a moment that his home had been entered and things were missing. The burglar or burglars had smashed a window in a side door to get in and then, apparently, left through the patio door. Missing were a 42-inch TV, a laptop computer, an iPad, jewelry and a watch, cash, a duffle bag and a serving dish from a dining room china cabinet. The victim said he had come home about a week before and found footprints in the …

Carjacking Arrest Also Solves Home Burglary, Police Say

Physical property evidence from a break-in is added to positive identifications in two armed robberies, piling up quite a body of likely felony charges against a 22-year-old suspect.

An active if not exceptionally bright criminal suspect made the mistake of taking the loot from one crime along to another, police believe. Inside a car stolen in a gunpoint robbery in Wauwatosa and then used in another robbery the next night, police found property belonging to a nearby Milwaukee resident and now are confident the suspect's arrest in those crimes will also solve a burglary. Due to incomplete information, it had appeared, and was reported Tuesday, that a suspect in the Saturday carjacking on North Avenue in Tosa had been captured later that same night in Milwaukee. New reports show that it wasn't until Sunday night that a Wauwatosa teenager's stolen Honda Accord was used in a street robbery in the 4500 block of North 77th …

Tosa Resident Gives Chase to Suspected Burglars

In one of two recent break-ins, homeowner returns just as likely suspects are leaving and goes in pursuit. In the other, new residents of Tosa get a rude awakening after a weekend trip.

A resident of the 2600 block of North 72nd Street reported Tuesday that between 11 a.m. and 6:15 p.m. – although most likely just moments before he called – someone broke in to his home through the front door and made off with a load of electronic equipment. He told police that when he arrived home, there was a dark-colored pickup truck with a cap or possibly an SUV at the curb in front of his house, with three or four people inside. As soon as he turned in to his driveway, he said, the truck pulled away in a hurry and made the first available turn. The homeowner backed out and gave chase as the truck went right on Clarke, left on Lefeber, left on Meinecke and right on 67th Street, speeding and blowing through all stop signs. The homeowner…

Tag Team: Big Boy Burglar, 14, Takes on 2 Cops – and Loses

Two police officers, individually outweighed, show boy what teamwork and training can do after two burglaries on west side. The boy, armed with deadly weapons, never was able to pull them.

A large young teenager, who may have thought he knew some moves, learned some new ones from the masters on Monday when he had to be subdued after two burglaries on the west side of Wauwatosa. He was big, but size isn't everything. Numbers help, and training prevails. According to police reports: A 14-year-old Milwaukee boy was arrested Monday on suspicion of two burglaries after he was spotted by a resident of the 900 block of North 115th Street inside the enclosed breezeway of the home. The homeowner told police the family had just sat down to dinner with his family when he heard the “click” of the breezeway door closing. He walked over, expecting to greet a neighbor, and instead found the boy, who also noticed him and ran. He told police…

Neighbor Spots Suspicious Subjects; Home Found Burglarized

Strange behavior attracts the notice of a neighbor, who leads police to uncover a break-in. But the suspects escape in stolen pickup truck.

Wauwatosa police officers investigating a suspicious vehicle and two subjects associated with it found that a home in the 2600 block of North 85th Street had been burglarized between 8 and 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. A caller told police that he had seen a pickup truck parked at North 85th and Clarke streets and that a man had walked back to it through several neighboring yards. As the truck drove away, the witness saw someone in the passenger seat toss several Mason jars out the window. Officers located the caller and had him lead the way back to where he had seen the suspicious man coming from. The trail led them to the burglarized home. A window had been smashed and the side door was standing wide open. When the owner was located and returned …
