Nominate Wauwatosa's Distinguished Citizen for 2012

Nominees must have voluntarily contributed to the community. The deadline for nominations is Jan. 9.

Nominations are being accepted for the Wauwatosa Citizen of the Year for 2012. Since 1964, the Wauwatosa Distinguished Citizen Award Council has annually recognized individuals who have made a distinguished contribution to the community life of Wauwatosa. The 2012 Citizen of the Year recognition is planned for April 24 at Bluemound Country Club, 10122 W. North Ave. Nominations may be made by any person, group or organization, but self-nomination will not be accepted. The required nomination forms are available at the City Clerk’s office in City Hall, or you may email Patrick McNally at patrick.mcnally82@gmail.com for an electronic copy. Bestselling Author James Bradley Will Keynote Annual Library Awards Lunch

From the Wauwatosa Public Library Foundation: Bestselling author James Bradley will provide the keynote address for the Wauwatosa Public Library Leadership Luncheon at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Wauwatosa at noon on April 19. In addition, Joe and Jennifer Bartolotta have been named the 2012 Arthur B. Kohasky Leadership Award recipients.    This 10th annual event celebrates the important role the library plays in the community while honoring area high school students and adults whose leadership has had a positive impact on our community. Old and Young, Two Tosans Take on New Memorial Flag Program

Decade-old project takes a new turn with personal tribute flags for purchase, an idea sprung from the always fertile mind of Dick Bachman and passed on to an eager Eagle Scout.

Dick Bachman is 81 and has done it all when it comes to community service. Matt Barrett is 15 and just getting started in community leadership. Together, they make quite a team. Bachman served 24 years as a Wauwatosa alderman, and many more as a Parks and Forestry Commissioner and on other boards and in community projects. And it is thanks to him that American flags have waved from light poles along North Avenue almost since 9/11, when he conceived of the idea. Now he has a new idea to ramp up enthusiasm for the flags, and with an assist from the Kiwanis Club of Wauwatosa, he's enlisted Matt, a sophomore at West High School, to help make it happen. Tosa Chamber Presents Its Annual Awards

Salvation Army, Radisson Hotel and Friends of Hoyt Park and Pool are this year's recipients.

The Wauwatosa Chamber of Commerce presented the winners of its annual awards Thursday night at its Annual Meeting and Social at the Radisson Hotel. The awards recognized leaders in three areas of service, business leadership and community involvement. This year's winners are: The Salvation Army of Milwaukee County was presented with the Regional Impact Award in recognition of its presence and commitment to the Milwaukee region with 84 programs created to address specific needs. As a leader within its industry for its efforts to resolve homelessness, the Salvation Army has been in Milwaukee for over 100 years.
