The manager of Taco Bell, 510 N. Mayfair Rd., reported Tuesday that between 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., while the restaurant was open and doing business, someone disassembled and stole the flush valve from the toilet in the men’s restroom. He said the thief had shut off the water to the toilet and left no tools or other evidence behind. He reviewed video of people entering and leaving the restaurant during the day, but he said no one stood out for any reason and there were far too many to be worth investigating. He also told police that this has happened at a number of other Taco Bell restaurants recently. The $300 valve was made of chromed brass. In other recent incidents: Thursday Police stopped and questioned a 20-year-old Milwaukee man …

If you think people in Milwaukee drink a lot, you should know that the champions come from Eau Claire. At 1:25 a.m. Sept. 2, a 29-year-old man of that city was arrested for disorderly conduct after an altercation with a woman at Jimmy’s Island Grill and Iguana Bar in the Radisson Hotel, 2303 N. Mayfair Rd. The woman said that the Eau Claire man, a stranger to her, had walked up to her in the bar and asked her to dance. She pointed out the wedding ring he was wearing and told him she didn’t think his wife would much like the idea. Not so, he said. He told her his wife was outside on the patio, and it was OK with her. In fact, he said, she had told him to go find someone to dance with. He walked away, but soon came back with his wife, to …

A young man troubled by alcoholism stole two bottles of mouthwash Friday from a Wauwatosa supermarket and quickly downed one of them to take the edge off his uncontrollable urge to drink. At 3:25 p.m., police arrested a 23-year-old South Milwaukee man for retail theft after he ran away from Metcalfe’s Sentry Foods, 6700 W. State St., with two half-liter bottles of Listerine mouthwash. A store security officer said he had seen the man taking the mouthwash and tried to stop him as he left the store, but he ran. He had crossed West State Street and the railroad tracks into Hart Park, the employee said, and then just sat down on the ground. Police officers found him there and learned that just while crossing the street and the tracks, the man …

The boys said they were walking home from Whitman Middle School along North 113th Street and were horsing around and chasing one another, and one of them took a couple of steps off the curb and into the street. The man, who was driving in the opposite lane, stopped his car and began to yell at the boy for being in the street, then got out and pushed him backward over the curb. With the recall election four days away, the former president spoke at a rally with Democrat Tom Barrett at Pere Marquette Park.
Former President Bill Clinton visited Pere Marquette Park Friday to support Democrat Tom Barrett as Wisconsin's tumultuous recall election nears its end. Clinton made cooperation the theme of his speech and hammered Gov. Scott Walker for his "divide and conquer" tactics. "Everywhere I go in America, everywhere I go in the world, the only thing that's working is when you get everybody who's got a stake in the game in there, treat them with respect and people go forward together," Clinton said. "That's how you get out of a ditch." Clinton said Barrett is the candidate better for education, the budget and creating jobs. He and Barrett also used the event to urge people to vote early, with absentee voting coming to an end Friday. Hundreds …

'Chaotic' scene surrounds convenience store after intoxicated man (who happened to be on probation) goes nearly berserk over confrontation with clerk after he digs in to Pringles without paying.
At 12:03 a.m. Monday, a 25-year-old Milwaukee man was arrested for disorderly conduct at the BP gas station at 7523 W. Center St. after creating a frightful disturbance in the presence of customers and staff. Police arrived on the call to find the man and two women who were with him. The two women, officers said, were screaming at the suspect to shut up and calm down, while the man was screaming profanities at them and at a clerk. “The scene was chaotic,” the reporting officer wrote. The suspect at first refused even to leave the store to speak to an officer. When he did, the officer noted that he was obviously drunk, still very angry and mostly incoherent. The officer said he was unable to get a detailed statement from the man, who …
