Wisconsin Lawmakers Not Thrilled with Bill That Averted Fiscal Cliff

None of the U.S. elected officials from Wisconsin particularly cared for the deal hammered out to avoid the "fiscal cliff" — and that includes those who voted for it.

The "fiscal cliff" was averted Tuesday when the U.S. House handily passed a bill approved a day earlier in the U.S. Senate that raised taxes on the wealthy and staved off a tax increase for the middle-class. The bill passed 257-167 in the House, a comfortable 40 votes more than what was needed to become law. Among the congressmen serving southeastern Wisconsin, U.S. Reps. Jim Sensenbrenner (R-WI 5th District) and Tom Petri (R-WI 6th District) voted "no" on the measure, while U.S. Reps. Paul Ryan (R- WI 1st District) and Gwen Moore (D- WI 4th District) cast "yes" votes. U.S. Rep. Sean Duffy (R-WI 7th District), who now serves the Hudson area, voted no. The U.S. Senate passed the bill 89-8 on Monday with Republican Ron Johnson and Democrat …

Patriot's post was unclear when he spoke about the large percentage who don't pay a single dime in federal income tax and then went on to speak about people on the dole although they could work. He failed to acknowledge the group of working people who because of low income and the use of tax deductions, exemptions and credit end up owing no federal income tax yet are taking no government aid. …   more ›

First Lady Michelle Obama Fires Up Crowd in Milwaukee

An estimated 2,500 Obama supporters from Milwaukee and across the world came to Bradley Tech High School Thursday afternoon to hear the First Lady's call to action to get out the vote in November.

After coming so close to meeting President Barack Obama when he came to Racine, 13-year-old Michelle Payne's dreams came true Thursday when Michelle Obama finished a campaign speech at Bradley Tech High School, patted her on the head, hugged her and told her she was proud of her. "It was an ecstatic feeling, something I will probably never feel again in my life," the Racine girl said. "She's my role model. I just started crying, and when she hugged me I didn't want to let go." Payne's emotional experience was echoed by many in the crowd of roughly 2,500 Obama supporters from across Milwaukee and the world who attended the First Lady's speech at Bradley Tech High School Thursday afternoon. In her speech, she recalled growing up lower class …

PART 2 Alinsky: From Forbes Magazine: No doubt, many will wish to give the credit to the efforts of the GOP controlled House of Representatives. That’s fine if that’s what works for you. However, you don’t get to have it both ways. Credit whom you will, but if you are truly interested in a fair analysis of the Obama years to date, at least when it comes to spending, you’re going to have to …   more ›

Barrett Picks Up Endorsement, Says He Will Restore Collective Bargaining

Milwaukee mayor and gubernatorial candidate Tom Barrett welcomed another endorsement, from U.S. Rep. Gwen Moore, in his campaign to unseat Gov. Scott Walker. In other news, see details on the latest poll on the Democratic primary.

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett picked up another endorsement Monday, from U.S. Rep. Gwen Moore (D-Milwaukee), in his push to grab the Democratic nod and unseat Gov. Scott Walker in June's recall election. Voters are a little more than three weeks away from tapping Walker's Democratic challenger, and Barrett was on the campaign trail in Milwaukee touting how his administration would end Wisconsin's political civil war and restore collective bargaining and tax fairness, while fielding the endorsement from Moore. Barrett will square off against former Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk, state Sen. Kathleen Vinehout (D-Alma) and Secretary of State Doug La Follette in a Democratic primary May 8. The winner will take on Walker on June 5. Barrett …
