Nine West High Players Honored as All-Conference Selections

Banquet gathering recognizes contributions and leadership of seniors and the high hopes inspired by successful juniors and sophomores ready to take over next season.

The 2012 Wauwatosa West Trojan football team was honored with nine player-selections for First Team All-Conference and nine additional selections for Honorable Mention All-Conference. All-Conference selections were made by Woodland Conference coaches. The Tosa West honoree total (18) ranks them second in team-wide recognition in the Conference. Greendale had 19 recognized and conference champ Pewaukee had 16. Conference recognition was announced Nov. 12 by Head Coach Matt Good at the post-season Trojan Football Banquet. Two Trojan backs received major hardware for outstanding seasons. Senior Mickey Morgan and junior Jameson Brock were selected for First Team honors on both offense and defense. Morgan was also named to the Woodland All-…

Subs, Slips, Stops: West Season Ends in Playoff Loss to Greendale

Trojans' miracle season ends suddenly with a defeat in which everything seems to go against them, even the weather.

For the Wauwatosa West Trojans and their fans, pre-game excitement met disappointing news even before kickoff on Friday night. Three top Trojan playmakers would not play due to injury and unavailability. The damp conditions wouldn’t help the usually faster Trojans, and more bad news concerned standout senior Mickey Morgan, who had received treatment for a sore shoulder.   Substitutes and role players would have to step up for this Tosa West versus Greendale state-wide Division 2 playoff matchup. Greendale was at full strength. They were coming off a thrashing of Brown Deer and looked to avenge their overtime loss to the Trojans two weeks earlier. It didn’t take long to see this game’s direction – and it was more disappointment for Trojan…

After OT Tilt, Tosa West-Greendale Rematch Should Be Lively

These two teams are so evenly matched despite their different styles, playoff game could again easily come down to the final possession, before or after regulation.

Let’s look back: Less than two weeks ago, a sensational high school football game between Greendale and Wauwatosa West ended in dramatic fashion. It was Oct. 5 in Greendale. As the game progressed, the Tosa West Trojans controlled the tempo. Penalties and turnovers slowed Greendale. In the fourth quarter, Greendale came alive. They staged two impressive scoring drives. With under a minute on the clock they pushed the game into overtime with the score knotted 30-30. Tosa West scored on their first OT possession, and then picked off a pass to end Greendale’s threat, winning 37-30. If you missed it, or if you wanted to see a rematch – it’s on! Wauwatosa West, seeded fourth, and Greendale, seeded fifth, will play in the WIAA state playoffs …

When your hometown football team makes the playoffs, there's no better place to be than in the stands, cheering the boys on. Tosa West Beats Greenfield in Close Homecoming Finish

Playing without their signature speedy rushers, Trojans still manage to gut out a 28-21 win with help from a strong special teams effort.

For the second week in a row, the Wauwatosa West Trojans went down to the wire. With their Homecoming grandstand filled, they won in heart-stopping fashion, defeating the Greenfield Hustlin’ Hawks 28-21. The Trojans concluded their regular season with a record of 7-1, while Greenfield dropped to 2-6. The Trojans won without two of their biggest playmakers, held out due to health precautions. Yet this gritty Tosa West team persevered. In the first quarter, the Trojans forced a Greenfield fumble and then scored on a 15-yard Greg Lewis run up the middle. On their second possession, Greenfield’s Alec Piekarski tied the score on a quarterback keeper good for 29 yards. Late in the first quarter, Tosa sophomore Demaris Purifoy broke a pair of …

After Dynamic, See-Saw Battle, West Beats Greendale 37-30 in OT

Panthers kick on-side to open game, recover and score, but Trojans gain and hold lead until nearly the end of regulation. Greendale's toughness ties it, but West wins in dramatic overtime fashion.

In their first down-to-the-wire contest of the year, the 2012 Wauwatosa West Trojans survived a furious comeback by the Greendale Panthers and won in overtime 37-30. This was an amazing game that featured all the drama and thrills a football fan could ask for. If there are “instant classics” in Woodland Conference sports, this game would qualify. And for Tosa fans, what a sweet and memorable finish. After a successful on-side kick to start the game, the Panthers jumped out to a 7-0 lead thanks to the play of Josh Ringleberg, their talented sophomore quarterback. Ringleberg passed and ran Greendale down the field and eventually scored on a quarterback keeper. The keeper – which sometimes looked like a delayed draw and sometimes like an …

Tosa West’s Speed, Stealth Dismantle New Berlin Eisenhower, 42-0

With the defense playing tough and forcing turnovers, and the offense displaying its expected fleetness, the Trojans dominate in their first shutout of what is now a 5-1 season.

It’s no longer a surprise that the Wauwatosa West Trojan ball carriers can fly. Jameson Brock, Mickey Morgan, Greg Lewis and Demaris Purifoy have made big plays all season. They love the seams and spaces regularly given by their gifted linemen. On defense and special teams the formula has been to rely on speed to contain the edges and protect against big plays. Against New Berlin Eisenhower the Trojan’s speed was joined by stealth. Tosa West defenders recovered two Lion fumbles, had three interceptions and made several stops in the Eisenhower backfield in a dominant 42-0 win. This victory moved the Tosa West record to 5-1, and Eisenhower is now 2-4. On offense, the Trojans started with two first downs on the ground. Then quarterback …

Muscle Stops Speed in Pewaukee Win Over West

Trojans fall, 27-6, losing their first game of the season to the still-undefeated Pirates. West's speed led to a quick score, but that would be the squad's only points as Pewaukee adjusted with its sturdy defense.

There was a minute – actually the game’s first 29 seconds – when it looked like the speed of the Tosa West ground attack would dominate this game like the four games that preceded it. On the Trojan’s first offensive play, Mickey Morgan ran outside for 60 yards, and on the second play Jameson Brock took the ball to the end zone from 10 yards out. West was up 6-0 over the Pewaukee Pirates.  But then reality set in. The Pewaukee Pirates – one of the area’s strongest teams – established success against the Trojan’s on both sides of the ball in a battle of the two remaining Woodland Conference undefeated teams, winning this contest 27-6. The Trojans are now 4-1 and the Pirates are 5-0. After that first drive the Trojan offense could not …

Team Effort Leads to Convincing West Win Over Pius XI, 55-30

Trojans ramble to a 4-0 record against a tough team, but the side that scores the most points wins, and West put together an offensive show throughout while the defense stiffened as the play went on.

When a team scores six touchdowns in any football game – they should come out on top. But that didn’t happen for Pius XI High School on Saturday night in Wauwatosa. The Tosa West Trojans defeated the Popes in a Woodland Conference game, 55-30. A steady and sometimes scorching offensive ground game continued to power the Trojans – now 4-0 in the Woodland Conference, while Pius dropped to 2-2. For the fourth time in as many games this season, Tosa West’s Mickey Morgan got things started with a long scoring run – this one almost 60 yards on the Trojan’s first offensive series to put the Trojan’s up 7-0. In the first set of downs for Pius, quarterback Connor Senger took off down the left sideline for a 50-yard run. Showing great hustle on …

Tosa West Makes Big Plays in 50-6 Conference Win

Offense soars and defense roars for Trojans in season-opening drubbing of St. Francis. Next up, and likely not as easy, the home-opener this week against Whitnall.

On a warm Friday night in St Francis, the Wauwatosa West High School Trojans beat the St. Francis Mariners by a score of 50-6. This was the first conference game for both teams, and the Trojans are now 1-0. For Tosa fans looking for explosive, big plays – this game provided plenty to see. Mickey Morgan, West’s do-it-all senior wingback had a memorable night. In the first offensive series of both the first and second halves, he exploded for touchdown runs of 60 yards and 74 yards. Other first-half touchdowns were a 50-yard scamper by junior halfback Jameson Brock, a 7-yard burst by Morgan and a 3-yard dive by junior fullback Greg Lewis. Another pair of touchdowns came from junior Develyn Ferguson. Late in the first half, Ferguson got free …
