East Student Musician Selected for Grammys Band

Tosa saxophonist Lenard Simpson is among 30 students from across the nation selected for prestigious Grammy Camp, a week leading up to the red-carpet night, Feb. 7 in Los Angeles.

Senior Lenard Simpson will not only do that but he will be one of 30 talented high school jazz musicians from across the country who will receive a once in a lifetime opportunity come together to create the Grammy Camp–Jazz Session, a jazz band that gets to perform at Grammy events.  “It’s a good feeling,” Simpson said, on making the band. “It’s kind of that feeling where you can’t describe it, because it’s so big. Tosa East Bands Benefit to Feature Jazz Trombone Virtuoso Wycliffe Gordon

Six-time Grammy-winner will join top college jazz band and East High's Jazz I Ensemble.

Six-time winner of the Jazz Journalists Association Trombonist of the Year Award Wycliffe Gordon will be the guest artist with the Northern Illinois (NIU) Jazz Ensemble at the 12th Annual Great Night of Jazz concert at the Dale K. Hidde Theater at East High School at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Born in Waynesboro, GA, in 1967, Gordon discovered the trombone at the age of 12 when his older brother began to play in junior high school. He has since performed with the Wynton Marsalis Septet, the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra, Billy Taylor, Dizzy Gillespie, Tommy Flanagan, Shirley Horn and many other jazz greats. Tosa East Theatre Fundraiser Concert Promises 'Musical Mayhem'

Greg Koch, world-renowned guitarist from Tosa, will lead talented trio helping out Friends of Theatre Arts.

The Tosa East Friends of Theatre Arts will present a fundraising concert at 8 p.m. Saturday in the school's Dale K. Hidde Auditorium being billed as "An Evening of Musical Mayhem." Leading the onstage carnage will be internationally renowned guitarist and local resident Greg Koch. Koch is one of the most sought after guitar clinicians in the world for both Fender Musical Instruments and the Hal Leonard Corp., the world's leading publisher of sheet music and music books, headquartered at 7777 Blue Mound Road. Koch is also a frequent guest on WKLH's "Dave and Carole Show," where he is known as "The Gristleman."
