World Series champs celebrate Jackie Robinson Day with popcorn and sodas at a private showing of '42' at Wauwatosa's neighborhood cinema.
The World Series Champion San Francisco Giants were looking for a little inspiration coming in to a series with the Milwaukee Brewers. So, on Monday night, Jackie Robinson Day in Major League Baseball, but with no game to play, they decided to go to the movies. Most of the Giants' roster and a couple of coaches rolled up in a bus Monday night to the Rosebud Cinema, 6823 W. North Ave. in Wauwatosa, to watch "42," the story of how Robinson broke the color line in baseball. "It was last minute," said Rosebud general manager David Gigl. "I talked to their travel agent, and their bus pulled up. "We had to coordinate some cones and move some cars. They walked in less than 25 feet from the front door." Opening Day for the Milwaukee Brewers is Monday, and fans are hoping they can return to the top of the National League Central Division — or at least beat the Chicago Cubs.
Milwaukee Brewers Opening Day is Monday, April 1 against the Colorado Rockies. The team was 83-79 last year, third in the NL Central Division. Fans’ expectations were recently raised after signing of free agent pitcher Kyle Lohse, a former St. Louis Cardinal who was 16-3 last year with a 2.86 ERA. Also key for Milwaukee’s hopes are the fortunes of Ryan Braun. The left fielder authored another incredible offensive season in 2012 (.319 batting average, 41 HR, 112 RBI, 30 SB) but is followed by a cloud of suspicion over the possible use of performance-enhancing drugs. Life for Milwaukee Brewer right fielder Corey Hart wasn't going as smoothly as he had wanted, but then his faith brought him comfort during a difficult time when others had started to doubt him.
For Milwaukee Brewers right fielder Corey Hart living his dream came with a price he wasn’t willing to pay. So he turned to Christ. Brewers star did just about everything right in Friday's press conference.
Did you hear it? It was almost audible, the sound of Milwaukee Brewers baseball fans breathing a collective sigh of relief this week as Brewers left fielder Ryan Braun won the first-ever appeal of a Major League Baseball drug test. But there was also another sound, the sound of implied guilt. As Mr. Braun said in his press conference on Friday, the scrutiny he endured is just the opposite of what is found in the American legal system: Guilty until proven innocent. Point taken, Mr. Braun. Oak Creek editor Mark Schaaf was just a twinkle in his father's eye during the last Suds Series, but better late than never: He's attended every playoff game at Miller Park and sleeps next to a Gorman Thomas bobblehead. When Nyjer Morgan tweeted “I hope those crying birds injoy watching tha Crew in tha Playoffs!" on Sept. 7, few could have imagined just how wrong Morgan would turn out to be. Well, the spelling and grammatical errors were obvious. But more importantly, the Cardinals were an after-thought in the playoff race at that time. Recently had the pleasure of attending a Brewer clothing auction for christmas which took palce in the clubhouse. What an eye opening experience when I seen a sign on the wall directing players where to go for Sunday mass. Who would have thought man can't wait for April to get here this team will get it done. Couple plugs in the bullpen which Im sure Anastio will fill and we are in the playoffs… more ›
