Kodak Moments Light Up The Domes

Milwaukee County Parks and Mt. Olive put on quite a show Thursday night and Patch was there with a fun and funky photo booth to capture all the smiles. Take a look!

Dozens danced to Mt. Olive's versions of Lada Gaga, Van Halen and Michael Jackson songs Thursday night for the weekly Milwaukee County Parks Music Under Glass event.  And with all those smiles, we didn't want you to miss out. So Patch set up a photo booth to catch concert-goers in between dance moves and some people even donned a few props, like a pink witch's hat, wigs and a purple lei.

Folks Flock to See Monarch Trail, Blue Moon

Kids and adults get an education about development plans for the County Grounds and how Friends group has worked to save a place in it for the migratory monarch butterfly.

When all the parking spaces at the Milwaukee County Parks building were full up, people started parking on the peripheries. And when they filled up, they started parking along the drive, until it was full, too. So, you'd have to call it a capacity crowd Friday night for the Friends of the Monarch Trail's Blue Moon Party. Kicking off at 5:30 p.m., there was kite-flying and face-painting for kids, and an education on migration for them and adults. Barb Agnew, the founder of the trail and leader of the Friends group, brought along a big hanging net bag filled with a variety of butterflies that she raises in her floral shop, Barb and Dick's Wildflower, 12326 Watertown Plank Rd. Among them were, of course, monarchs, the big orange and black …

PS: A funny thing, last week, I was sitting up at the kiosk taking a water break with my dogs after walking The Grounds, which I've been doing the past 20+ years. A big bug buzzed into me and whacked me upside the head. It was a preying mantis nymph. It settled down on top of the table and was turning its head back and forth, I guess trying to make sense of my big dog who was lying on the table, …   more ›

UPDATE: Sue Black Out as Milwaukee County Parks Director

After 10-year tenure of dealing with budget cuts and still winning awards, Black is "no longer with Milwaukee County," County Executive Chris Abele said Thursday.

Updated at 5 p.m. Thursday to include comments from County Executive Chris Abele. Milwaukee County Parks Director Sue Black was fired by County Executive Chris Able, who declined to say why Black was dismissed after a decade on the job. At an afternoon press conference, Abele declined to give any specific reason for terminating Black, saying only that his responsibility was to make decisions that were in the best interests of county taxpayers. Asked repeatedly what had changed in Black's relationship with the administration, Abele replied that he could not comment on personnel matters and would not indulge in "gossip." "What I owe you as an elected official is the best use of your tax dollars," Abele said. "What I owe you is responsible …

I think sue black did a great job. She made it more affordable for family to enjoy the parks, golfing, etc. It's a shame she was let go.   more ›
