Scott Walker: End to NFL Lockout Unites Us All

Governor dismisses any personal responsibility for forcing league's hand, but he's happy it's over and so is all of Wisconsin — red and blue alike.

The final question for Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker in a Thursday media conference on the 2012 presidential race was decidedly non-political — and Walker did turn it into a strong non-partisan message. How does he feel about the return of professional NFL referees to the game? The governor, U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson, reporters and a roomful of supporters in the Wauwatosa GOP Victory Center erupted in laughter. But then Walker got serious — or semi-serious. Walker said he had been on a broadcast show earlier Thursday morning, "and they said, 'And now, the governor who brought the NFL to their knees.' "I'd like to claim credit for that, but I think — no," Walker said. Walker had famously tweeted Tuesday from his @GovWalker account, “After …

Diner Backs NFL Boycott, Offers Discount for Venting Frustration

One part-owner of North Avenue Grill spawns boycott action, prompting her partner to launch a price break just for voicing your feelings about 'The Call."

The owners of a Wauwatosa diner feel your pain, Packers fans. And they're willing to feed your anger and resentment. The North Avenue Grill, 7225 W. North Ave., is offering a discount to anyone ready to vent — and eat. "Tell your server 'The Packers got robbed' and get 10 percent off your check, plus your choice of an awkward hug or a hearty handshake," said part-owner Jon Anne Willow. Willow said the discount would run at least all day Tuesday (closing time 8 p.m.) and maybe longer. "We'll see how it goes," she said. Willow conceived of the discount when she learned that a partner in the business was a ringleader of a going-viral movement to boycott the NFL for a week in protest of subpar officiating. Patti Wenzel said she was so incensed…

Gov. Scott Walker Takes to Twitter to Back NFL Refs

Republican governor says it's time to bring back the "real referees" — who are unionized.

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, known for his anti-union stance, is stuck between Twitter and a hard place this morning after putting a #Returntherealrefs hashtag at the end of a tweet regarding Monday night’s loss by the Green Bay Packers. “After catching a few hours of sleep, the #Packers game is still just as painful. #Returntherealrefs” he tweeted from his @GovWalker account. The Packers suffered a controversial 14-12 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in which a last-play touchdown appeared to have two blown calls that would have overturned the touchdown. The calls were made by replacement officials, working in place of locked-out, unionized NFL officials. Walker was the target of a recall election in June after the state passed Act 10, which …

"Being union has nothing to do with it! These refs are the best of the best and would be whether or not they were in a union." Then fact of the matter is "the best of the best" are union. The non-union scabs are incompetent.   more ›

Packers Fans Call for National Boycott of NFL

Fed up with blown calls, a group of football fans is urging others to stop watching games for five days.

Fed up with the inconsistent quality of replacement referee and blown calls, a group of football fans are calling for a five-day boycott of the NFL. Organized by several Racine County residents, the boycott would run from Sept. 27 through Oct. 1 to cover the fourth week of the season. The fans say their patience was already thin with the bad officiating, but the final call at the end of the Green Bay Packers-Seattle Seahawks game was the ruling that spurred them to action.  Brian Dey and Eddie Willing, both of Caledonia, issued a statement that said:  "The union contract negotiations have been mishandled for several seasons, and this is the worst, at the hands of (NFL Commissioner) Roger Goodell." Even Gov. Scott Walker weighed in on the …

All of the fancy numbers about executive compensation are based on very limited groupings. Most use "The largest 500 companies" or "299 CEOs from Fortune 500 companies". These numbers do not represent the majority of executives out there and they are numbers that aren't even worth quoting.   more ›
